You can't get this experiencing streaming!
Recently purchased a high end 4k Blu Ray player, and have been going back to buying physical media. This Box set alone is exactly why streaming with never compete. First off, the picture quality is unmatched, Audio is uncompressed, and the boxset itself is just incredible. The touch, the feel, the colors, the overall experience of "owning" this is just great. Can't wait to buy more!

Suspense at its best is here. Disappointed by modern films
Love this boxed set! The weakest is "Birds" -- I wanted to strangle the protagonists most of the time--but all four of these are classic thrillers. NO OTHER movies in the current pablum approximate grabbing the viewer by the scruff of the neck and make it IMPOSSIBLE to disengage. We did pause Vertigo and Rear Window a few times to catch our breath, but these are delicious treats of the genre. James Stewart and Kim Novak are great in Vertigo and what a plot! WE watched the Blu-Ray and not the 4K version, and the picture was still great in 1080p. HAVE TO COMMENT on the AUDIO: so impressed by how the soundstage was anchored to our 12ft screen and the scene ambiance of our theater room; this was uncannily apparent in dialog between actors: voices popped out of their mouths on the screen, all the while surrounding ambiance was maintained. MOST far more modern and high-tech-endowed movies do not approximate this level of realism. Rear Window was another suspense classic. Soundstage not quite so good as in Vertigo. But James Stewart's performance, and the PLOT (whatever happened to plots?) drove this without sex, violence, explosions, "special effects" to a pitch we could not ignore. Wow! We'd enjoyed James Stewart in Flight of the Phoenix (another MUST WATCH if you enjoy drama and great acting) and It's Wonderful Life. Want more of that quality. We will look for more of Mr. Hitchcock's work.

Well-worth the upgrade
Having just finished watching the 4K version of the "uncut" version of "Psycho," it's safe to say from both a picture and sound-quality angle that it's a very commendable and striking upgrade; Even a movie shot in 1959/60 on black and white, 35mm film will show greater depth and detail, and finer-grain management than it's Blu-ray iteration. I cannot overstate how good the original film elements looks in "native," 2160p-4K resolution, and how it also receives a substantial boost in contrast with the "HDR" and Dolby-Vision treatment; The sounds remix, which was substantially restored and re-imagined in 2010, expanding the original, and excellent mono soundtrack Hitchcock approved. Building on that decade-old, "Lossless" soundtrack, the new edition now features a "DTS:X" 7.1.2 multi-channel, "object-placed" sound design. Even though I am a traditionalist and love the original, monaural sound mix, this new remix creates a sense of deep immersion, with the "above" channels(Atmos-DTS:X)-equipped speakers coming alive to Bernard Herman's iconic score and other critical scenes that add even more tension. I've not yet viewed, in their entirety "The Birds," "Rear Window" and the real gem of the collection, "Vertigo," which millions were spent on it's restoration as the original negative was in poor condition and had to be "photo-chemically" restored, beginning in 1997;" That restoration was impressive enough, but in native 4K, it takes it to another level. As I mentioned, I've not yet watch the other titles, but I did pop-in "Vertigo" just see and hear the difference...and boy, what a difference! I will write on this entire collection at another time, but suffice to say that If you own a 4K tv, preferably and OLED to full appreciate that true, deep blacks and amazing colors, you will be rewarded in a viewing experience that wasn't possible just ten years ago. ~ ALFRED HITCHCOCK 4K Classics Collection/4 Movies in 4K UHD/Blu-ray NEW release ~
This is one good set of 4 of Alfred Hitchcock's classic movies. If you haven't seen THE BIRDS, PSYCHO, REAR WINDOW, or VERTIGO in UHD 4K, now is the time. Overall, a better improvement over the previous blu-rays. However, there seems to be an issue with the PSYCHO 4K discs with the audio not having the "original sound mix" for an audio selection. The Blu-rays in this set are the exact same in content, audio and menu design. The movies look good, probably the best they ever have been before. The set also comes with a nice outer sleeve and embossed lettering. The discs and artwork are fabulous and come in their own sleeves. Universal has this book sleeve style going for a few of their sets. With any of these types, you are probably going to have to grasp the disc by your finger tips, thus fingerprints may be present before playing. Handle with care as always. It looks like all previous special features were brought over from other releases prior to this and they look good as well. The menu designs are good and easy to select from. For best picture and sound, I suggest you play these back on the 4K player and 4K TV with HDR. If your equipment is not fairly new, you may not notice the improvements. This DOES include the UNCUT version of PSYCHO on the 4K plus the edited down version we all saw on Video, DVD, Blu-ray, TV broadcasts over the past 60 years. The extended scenes seem to be in the parlor discussion, the stabbing of the private investigator, and perhaps when Norman was spying on Marion into the bathroom. All in all, a good set to own, but with the audio issue of PSYCHO not having the original sound mix to select from the menu, I have to subtract a star for the whole set. It appears Universal is aware of this and are working on a replacement. If and when they do that remains to be seen as of this review. As far as picture quality, these are superior to previous blu-ray releases by Universal. THE BIRDS and the others have never looked so good. The same 4K disc and Blu-ray are in the new black PSYCHO Steelbook release as in this set.

A stunningly restored 4K collection of classics from the Master himself Alfred Hitchcock!
The 4K upgrade to these movies are a remarkable transformation, almost like new films and a worthwhile leap from the standard Blu-ray . VERTIGO,REAR WINDOW , PSYCHO and THE BIRDS are stunning. Here we are some sixty plus years later still talking about Hitchcock’s mastery and the influence he made on the genre . An absolute must for serious fans from the Grandmaster of suspense and true collectors items

Must buy if you like classic movies
They don't make them like this anymore! Great selection of key Hitchcock classics all in 4k and newly restored by the looks of it. We were astounded by some of the picture quality especially present in the birds and vertigo (parts looked like they were filmed just yesterday) however all 4 movies have never looked better overall. Great scripts, acting, stories and so well shot. Also come with standard blu rays with tonnes of extras. Why can't we make films like these anymore? Doesn't matter I guess as we can buy 4k restorations now. We shall be sure to be buying the other Hitchcock box set as well as looking out for other classics (I have to also recommend Spartacus and 10 commandments as well as 2001 of course). 4ks unfortunately don't come cheap however they have reignited my interest in films, and I would say this collection is great value and recommended if you are just starting out.
