Purchased unit several months ago, but only got to trying now. At first it wouldn't turn on at all, either by the front button or remote. A picture never appeared on the connected monitor and the green LED display on the front never showed anything or even flashed. I suspected I received a bad unit that didn't power on, like some other reviews mentioned. However, I decided to try another outlet in the power strip I had it plugged into and it turned on immediately and had "boot" on the green LED panel. So it does in fact turn on! (I didn't think one plug in a power strip would go bad, but I guess they can. I will get a new power strip.) Anyway, I'm glad this unit works after sitting on my shelf for several months.

I don't have cable, and my 14 year old DVR/DVD player/recorder recently died, so I was looking for a new one for OTA (over the air = antenna) recording. Prices were from $25 to hundreds of dollars. I only occasionally want to record OTA TV, so didn't want to spend much. I bought a used Tablo for $50 (are $150 new), even though it had no remote (have to use an app on your phone or laptop), and the reviews weren't great, but were slightly better than the cheaper iView. I had read the Tablos were torture to set up, and in 2 hours I couldn't get it to work and returned it (BTW, I am an engineer). I then bought this iView for $25 new (and a 1TB external drive for $25, but a cheaper flash drive would work). In 14 years I figured the technology would be much better, but everything about it (except resolution) was worse than my old one. The remote has small, closely spaced, poorly laid out buttons that were often used for other functions (to delete a program you press the program guide button!). But I have a Harmony 650, so use it instead. The response time (time between pressing a remote button and anything happening) is slow; the program guide is only 6 (supposedly 24) hours; it requires a USB device to record anything; the manual is minimal, has mistakes, and lacks explanations; the list of recordings on screen is not intuitive (just day, start time and channel, where my old one had a video clip), and you can not watch a recorded show while recording another as my old one could. Having said all that though, it does record in 1080P, does have a remote, can play videos, music, and show pictures off a USB device, and is only $25 new (plus USB storage). So even though it's lacking compared to my old one (which was $140 14 years ago), and I can't compare it to any other DVRs, all costing $150+ and often have a monthly fee as well, I am quite pleased with it for the price, and would recommend it for anyone looking for a budget DVR to record OTA shows.

I would give the iView 3300STB converter box Zero stars, if possible. I've learned the hard way (through returns of faulty boxes by three different manufacturers) that the achilles heel of all these boxes is the software, which apparently originates (not joking) from the same vendor in China and is prone to glitches. BTW, note the high ratio of 1 star reviews for converter boxes, usually between 12 and 18 percent. This iView box was a disaster the moment I hooked it up. Picture quality was fine, but nothing else worked. The Menu screen that controls operating functions was partially blocked by an image of a rogue "Options" page, meaning I couldn't access most functions. After two days the Menu wouldn't come on at all when I hit that button on the remote. Also, a robot voice suddenly began echoing every command entered on the remote; i.e., if I wanted to watch CBS News livestream that voice would say "This is CBS News livestreaming, the fifth station out of 57 in your programming list". The instruction manual makes no mention of a voice activated feature. I have no idea where that voice is coming from and I can't shut it off. Likewise, the unit suddenly turned on Closed Captions by itself...and since the Menu doesn't work I can't shut off the captions. Oh...and when I try to change the order of my saved Favorite stations, the box shuts off completely. How this particular unit ever made it into the marketplace is beyond me. Clearly there's little if any quality control at iView. I'm returning this to Amazon and will try my luck with an "Amazon's Choice" converter box made by another company.

This box replaced the function of our big screen tv coaxial antenna input that was accidentally pulled off and we were able to receive all our OTA channels, plus it tapes programs very clear for viewing later at ones convenience. It allows for a USB input to record unlimited programming. Great value for its cost!

After using this for a month, I think I have a pretty good idea of the pros and cons. I purchased it to use as an over the air DVR. It does work, records programs, etc. I've had no problems with the remote as others mentioned. I attached an SSD drive via USB, that works great. Generally it functions well when watching recordings, the FF and RW work well, mostly. The HD quality seems to be very good. Tuner works great with my own digital, amplified antenna. For the price, I would say you probably can't beat it. There are quirks though- 1. it doesn't save the show with the title of the program (even though it knows what it is in the program guide), it only will show the network and a date stamp. You also can't rearrange the sorting of the programs. Always sorts by channel ID (Like WKRP or whatever the call letters of the station are). You can rename them but, with the remote only, that is no fun. 2. When previewing recorded shows and you want to delete one or move to the next, it will always take you back to the first page and you have to find where you were again, without any show titles. That's frustrating. 3. It only can do one thing at a time, for example, if it is recording you can't watch a recording or another channel. It only has one tuner, so no recording two items at the same time. If it is recording, you can't schedule or do anything else. 4. It sometimes decides to change the start date of your recurring scheduled recordings to a week later and you miss some daily shows until you realized this. It sometimes decides to delete recurring schedules and you won't realize until you go to watch and there isn't a new recording that you were expecting. 5. It sometimes will delete all of your schedules (did this after daylight savings time change). 6. When using the EPG button to look for programs to schedule on the channel you are on, it will only show a few hours in the future and it is very slow to load episode info if it ever does. So most often you need to manually schedule items. The manual scheduler is a bit funky. 7. The only option for recurring recordings is daily or weekly. So if you are recording a program that is on weekdays, it will record on the weekends too, and you have to find and delete those wrong recordings. Which is a pain (see #2) 8. The time shift works, but it is not automatic, you have to remember to start it. Also, if you accidently press stop while watching a time-shift it will take you all the way back to the beginning of the time-shift and you have to FF to get where you were. This also happens if you reach the end of the time-shift (catch up to regular time of show) when FF through commercials. 9. 2 or 3 times in the last month it has locked up and needed to be unplugged and plugged back in to get it to reboot. 2 times it said the hard disk drive was disconnected when it wasn't. This requires a reboot. This could be the drive I am using though. 10. It takes more than a few seconds to boot when you first turn it on. So you may want to always leave it on. I expect that would use more power, but don't know for sure. 11. iView says that there is a firmware update on their website to fix "all problems", but the version on their website is older that the one my unit has installed. Other than that, I have no complaints ;o)

I previously wrote a very negative review of this seller since I had received no reply to my request for a refund. I have since received an offer of a 50% rebate and I can keep the device. I think this is fair, since the defect in the device makes it difficult to use but doesn't prevent me from using it. If I could find a way to remove my previous comment, I would do so.

Unless you have many tv stations broadcasting over the air in your area and can’t more than 3 it’s not worth It unless you like them. Works good for me in the Toronto,Niagara, Buffalo areas.

Product does not find incoming channels from standard non encrypted cable signals. The old VCR and TV does recognize these signals. It was our intent with this product to use the recording function and replace the VCR. However, Doesnt work that way. The company help desk repeated what was already in the user manual. Absolutely no help.
