Advanced Artist resource
It was a lovely book, but not for beginners or beginner friendly into this plant/fiber art. I returned the book.

Focus is printing on paper and less on fabric
I would have liked more about printing on fabric. The description was misleading although the overall content was highly informative per usual from the author.

Best of Both Worlds- best eco-dyeing / botanical printmaking book by far!
I've had the pleasure of working with Jane Dunnewold in person, including taking her botanical printmaking course. A superior teacher, she doesn't hold back and give you all the tricks and techniques you haven't been able to find in other books or websites. I recall struggling to make sense of mordants, substrates, carriers, recipes and other terms prior to her class and this book coming out. If you want to learn eco-dyeing on either paper or fabric, you should definitely get this. If you've seen Jane's other books on Art Cloth and Surface Design, you know the depth of the material and amount of research she puts into her publications. Highly recommended!

Not for Beginners
I’ve never done botanical printing and this book didn’t give me the how to’s I thought I might find. Not enough practical photos of how to make stacks, how to use mordants, put bundles in the steamer. I would have found it useful for the author to show step by step photos of an actual project start to finish. Too many images of finished artwork and not enough of how to get there. I feel like I got a lot of ingredients but not enough instruction to let me know what to do with them.

Well-written, practical and interesting
Jane's style is very pragmatic and readable. She has a no-nonsense, give it a go approach backed by her extensive knowledge. Very accessible for a beginner but lots for the more experienced dyer/printer, with a really wide range of techniques being explored. Those who only work with natural dyes might be surprised to see the use of some synthetic dyes but for me it adds to the subject (and if you're not into synthetic dyes, it doesn't in any way detract from the overall value of the book). Interviews with other practitioners are interesting but not so long/frequent as to make it a coffee table 'look-book' - it's very hands-on which was what I was looking for. Love it.
