Solid Performance, Limited Flexibility
I have a few of these in use and haven’t had one fail yet. Most mainstream brands still use bimetallic strip thermostats in most of their aquarium heaters. These Tetra heaters use an electronic thermostat instead, which should reduce potential failure points by eliminating both the moving parts of a bimetallic strip, and the temperature control knob, which is a point on other heaters that can allow water ingress. On paper, that makes them a bit more robust than the traditional design. The main drawback is that these are fixed to around 78°F. If you need to run a tank hotter—into the mid-80s for disease treatment, for example—these won’t do the job. That said, for most people and most setups, these heaters are perfectly adequate, especially at the price point. If you need more flexibility or want extra peace of mind, I’d suggest looking at some of the heaters from Chinese brands with external digital controllers. Even better: pair your heater with an external temperature controller. That way, both the heater and the controller would need to fail at once to overheat your tank. Ideally, you’d run two smaller heaters, each on its own controller, to provide redundancy for both stuck-on and stuck-off failures. Of course, by the time you buy all that, you're looking at a setup that costs about six times more than one of these. So it really just comes down to where you want to land on the cost vs. risk spectrum. For a basic, inexpensive heater, these have done the job just fine for me.

Great little heater.
Works well. I was nervous at first because there was no device to see temperature but its not needed when you have a sticker thermostat. The speed of the temp rising was good to not shock my betta. It took about 24 hours to get to temperature. It had no smell when it started to heat up. It stuck right to glass with no issues, unlike ones I've had in the past, with other company's. When its time to clean it a quick wipe down will do the trick making keeping it clean very easy. It was smaller in size so not too thick and hides off to the side.

Great little heaters
Easy and uncomplicated, just the way I like it. Either as a standalone heater as in my 30 gallon tank or working in tandem on a thermostat as in my 55 gallon tank they are just dependable inexpensive heaters. I don't know how old my last one was before I replaced it but it had been used for a while before it came to me with the tank I bought and I was so impressed with it's dependability I replaced it with another. Funny thing is it never did fail, I was just being proactive as I didn't know it's age. These are my heaters now. I will say I did take the old suction cup and added it to the new heater. It would be nice if they came with two suction cups.

Quite satisfied with this product
It's small but cute. First submersible aquarium heater I've owned. Have used it for over six months and it has worked flawlessly, keeping the temperature at a perfect 77°. I would definitely buy this again.

Great heater for saltwater or freshwater aquariums
Many people that are rating this product with a 1 or 2 star clearly are not using it right, saying it is going out or not heating hot enough. To use this heater properly, you must sit the heater in the aquarium water for 30 minutes before even plugging it in. This is to set the thermostat inside the heater. Also, you must place the heater set up 90 degrees or laying flat parallel with the bottom of the tank. Another reason it may stop working is, once you turn off the heater you must leave it in the water for 15 minutes before taking it out. Bottom line is, this is a great heater. I use 3 of them total, one for a 10 gallon saltwater nano reef, one for a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium, and one to heat up my water change water. This is one of the best compact heaters I have used, compared to two other more expensive heaters. This is also definitely the cheapest place to find the heater (on amazon), in my local fish stores it runs $17. Ignore the reviews by people that probably didn't even read the instructions before sticking it in their tank and saying it doesn't work right. No adjustments need to be made with this heater and that is one of the greatest things about it also. Pros: Red light when heating Green light when temperature is correct Small and compact Cheap price Good quality Fully Submersible Heats up to 10 gallons Consistent temperature Rubber protects the glass heating tube Cons: Cannot change the temperature if desired.

Steady heat without the guesswork
So far this heater is working great. Keeps my 20 gallon tank at a steady 78° without having to mess with a finicky dial. You don't have to remember which way to turn the dial taking all the guess work out. It's small size takes up less room as well.

Worked for 2 weeks!!!
Got this 2 weeks ago and was thrilled that it kept my 3 gallon tank warm and my betta happy... until it stopped working last night after I cleaned the tank and changed partial water. It stopped working all together and water is ICE COLD this morning! The light is green and will occasionally turn red for a few seconds before going back to green (which is supposed to indicate the the water is at the correct temperature). Still cold. I called Tetra customer service after reading many of the reviews here with the same issue. I explained what happened and asked if there is anything I could do to fix it or reset the heater as another reviewer mentioned that customer service gave instructions which fixed the issue. The customer service rep I spoke to would not help or even talk to me further if I could not tell him the temperature. I explained that I do not have a thermostat therefore I wouldn't be able to check the temp but I assured him that the water was noticeably cold to touch in comparison to the warm water that has been consistent in the tank in the 2 weeks I've had this heater and tank. He rudely continued to cut me off and said that he couldn't help me if I don't have a temperature and he became more and more condescending in his tone has he continued. His customer service was TERRIBLE! I told him that I understood he needed to know the actual temp and that he couldn't trust the temperature based on touch, so I asked if he could at least tell me what the possible options are as far as fixing this issue would be as I saw many other amazon reviewers shared the same issue. He became increasingly frustrated, increasingly rude, saying that he needs the temperature to know if he needs to send a replacement etc. I graciously explained that it was not my intention to get a replacement. I just wanted to know if he could help me troubleshoot so that I can attempt to fix my heater before my betta dies. I'm not interested in waiting for a replacement heater to come in the mail. Eventually I just asked to speak to his supervisor multiple times before he finally he basically said (like a child with a bad attitude) "Fine....." and he patched me directly through to someone's voicemail. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE TETRA PRODUCTS for the simple fact that customer service is NOT a priority to them. A simple "I'm sorry you're having trouble with your new heater. Tell me what's happening and let's see what we can do...." would have been great and I would be willing to go to the nearest pet store and buy a replacement myself if he was willing to help me troubleshoot and exhaust all options first. Instead, the gentleman has no customer service training, does not know the meaning of showing empathy, and is not interested in helping anyone... unless you can tell him the temperature of the water even though this heater doesn't have a thermostat in the first place.

Works great in small bowl! GET A THEROMEMTER AND MONITOR AT FIRST!
So I took a slightly educated calculated risk with this thing. As you can tell, I have a very small Beta bowl. It looked like at least 2 gallons to me. I bought this heater with a small thermostat that was recommended along with this heater. Plugged both in at the same time and monitored the temperature for an entire day. The water rose ten degrees! From 66.6 to a nice 76.6. The heater has a red light when it is ‘heating.’ And it changes to green when it is just maintaining. So I’m assuming obviously this thermostat has some sort of brain that tells it to stop heating up around 77. I don’t know. Im no genius, but my beta has completely woken up! He’s more active, he’s actively swimming and just a lot more happy looking. And yes, my tiny beta bowl is kind of sad, but I just adopted this guy from the pet store because I felt terrible for him in his tiny plastic cup. The tank is murky due to the introduction of some friendly rock algae’s. And yes, I have plans to upgrade to a much nicer, larger and entertaining tank for my friend Kimchi very soon. I’ve had him one week and he’s alive! This heater is great. I’ve had beta’s before and have had good luck with them. I’ve never had a heated tank before. The difference in the fish is night and day. Do your tropically climate orientation fishy friend from south east Asia a favor and heat their environment! But do so with caution. And never without a thermometer. Seriously, don’t ever put a heater in a fish bowl without a thermometer. Especially one so small, I had read horror stories of people’s fish frying due to too much heat. This heater/thermometer combo has been the cheapest and easiest thing to completely improve my beta’s quality of life. New tank with filter and more room coming soon!

Aquarium heater works great
This heater works fantastically.. I ordered it for my 3.7 gallon aquarium and it had no trouble heating the water up to 76° and maintaining that temperature even in winter when the indoor temperature in my house can drop to about 60° or lower. It has a long cord so you don't need to have your aquarium by the power source which could be dangerous. It secures to your tank by a suction cup which is very strong.. if secured correctly the heater will not come off. Good heater at a good price.. it works great can't complain.

Works great, does what is needed
This heater has worked great after my last one died suddenly. It doesn't have the option to change the temperature, but for my needs, that is no issue. I do hope there is no chance for the regulation to fail, however, I have it plugged into a temperature controller anyway, so I will know if it goes too high or too low. So far no issues. Using it in a 10-gallon tank.

Buena calidad y precio
Buena compra se siente de buena calidad y aproximadamente tardo 4 horas en templar 60 litros se ve claro el foco rojo aún con la luz del acuario prendido se pone en verde una vez que el agua alcanzó la temperatura
