Sper Scientific 810038 Talking Lab Countdown Timer

As advertised. While it might be a lab instrument, it is also just fine in the kitchen, The talking aspect was needed for the blind and it works great. The countdown is done just right with the last 10 seconds counted down by second. The ability to select different alarm types is really appreciated since other appliances in the kitchen all seem to use the same beep. We chose car horn and that really gets your attention amongst the clatter of other sounds. As far as I could find, this is the only timer with such useful features.

Worked great until it didn't. Used it about 8 times.

Does not count down the way I wanted,such as..10,9,8,7 etc.

This is not one of the throw-away timers you see everywhere. I used just one of these timers in a science laboratory and classroom for at least 25 years. It was used also in the kitchen at times and as an alarm clock on vacations (as alarm clock you must count up the elapsed hours until you want to awaken). Intuitive to operate and versatile. I don't remember ever changing the battery. You can choose from a variety of sounds and it is plenty loud. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

Bought this for a time management tool for my 7 year old ADHD grandson who is also hearing impaired in both ears. The product works as advertised and is very reliable, has multiple options of a stand, clip, and magnet, and is simple to use (my grandson sometimes sets it himself). Otherwise, I thought the clock was bigger based on the picture (needed something my grandson could see well), and the sound is not as loud as I had hoped for a hearing impaired person (although it is loud enough for me). Still, I will buy another one if this one fails.

I have now purchased 5 of these (previous 4 from other vendors) for use as countdown timers for starting sail boat races. The others all suffered catastrophic damage from being dropped, bashed, or soaked in seawater!! Nevertheless they are great for this purpose. You can buy them cheaper (under a different brand name) from other sites, but I needed this one in a hurry for an overseas trip.

This is the original talking countdown timer that has been sold under many different brand names to the visually impaired for years. Very tactile and easy to use. There is a newer re-designed version of this timer that is available and at a cheaper price. After trying one I found it not to be as accessible and would recommend purchasing this one. Even though the price tag is slightly higher it is definitely an example of getting what you pay for.

If it works it's great, if it works. The 1st one I got was froze up, everything in the display lit up and nothing working, so I sent it back and got another. I only use it once a month, have had it for 7 months now and now this one is froze to and not functioning. Pretty expensive for such a short life.
