Good updated information
I used this in a Brain-based Learning course I taught over the summer. I liked the updates included from the last edition and my students felt it was very straightforward, provided details they could use, and clearly written.

A must for all educators!
Thank you Eric and Liesl. I love learning about the brain too. Thank you for the recent research that you applied throughout the entire book, practical "In the Classroom" sections throughout the entire book, and the fabulous organization of the book! I highly recommend this book for any and all educators. We must be consciously competent - "knowing why certain strategies work better than others to create an optimal learning environment."

Great resource for teaching practices and reflections.
The book Brain-Based Learning: Teaching the Way Students Really Learn (Third Edition) by Eric Jensen and Lisel McConchie, is a book I would recommend for teachers to read. I even think this would be a great book to use as a professional development course. Though I did not agree with everything that the author stated, he had really good information to provide about understanding how the brain works and how it connects with students' learning abilities. My favorite part of the book was laid out by chapters and topics in an easy to follow manner. Throughout the chapters, it had sections called “In The Classroom” which gave insights and/or activities of how you could apply what you read into the classroom and/or how you would see it occur.Topics included in this book were “wide-spread discussions” regarding how the environment, senses, students well-being, etc. plays a major role in their learning. It provided tips and understanding for teachers to get the “best” out of their students but understanding how the students brain works and how it helps them learn.Overall, this is a book that you will want a pin/highlighter to mark up and reference again and again. It is not read once and place it on a bookshelf. It is a book to consistently reflect over and put into your teaching practices for the most efficient brain-based learning experiences within your classroom.

A Must Read For Understanding Students In Today's Classroom!
Brain-Based Learning: Teaching the Way Students Really Learn is a wonderfully written book that skillfully guides teachers in understanding the brain. The authors of the book took the time to write in language that is easy to understand and practical for teachers in the field who already have overflowing plates, which is much appreciated! The book is broken into four sections, each building upon the previous to ultimately provide the reader with a great understanding of how the brain learns and how this can be applied in the classroom. Teaching “old school” is quickly going out the window. Teachers who remain insistent on teaching the same way things have always been taught are burning out and leaving the field. It is not because of the students’ inability to learn the content, but the lack of change some teachers are willing to make to adjust to new findings on how students learn. This book is a great guide for teachers who ARE willing to make adjustments and begin thinking forward. However, this isn’t a book for just those teachers. The very best in their craft will benefit from reading this as it challenges the way teachers think and approach designing instruction for students. No matter your experience level in teaching, this is worth a read.Beyond the science and research backing the content within, the authors provide frequent sections of applicable strategies that can be taken back into the classroom to be used immediately. From thinking of ways to incorporate the various brain inputs into a lesson to discussion prompts that promote positive relationships and self-worth, there is something for any type of classroom that can be taken and applied. Finally, what I greatly appreciate from the authors is their attention to teachers’ brains. A portion of the book is designated for sharing strategies and research on self-care to help educators ensure they are at their best for their students. My outlook and thinking have changed after reading this and I will be encouraging fellow educators and coworkers to read this book.

So much fluff!
The book isn't terrible, and does provide some solid techniques and information on brain based learning but my goodness is it hard to separate what's necessary and whats added waste.. there's simply too much 'nice-to-know' information that is just not necessary. This book could easily be reduced to 30% of its current word count. The author maybe very knowledgeable on the subject but less is more nowadays, and it just seemed that there was a weird cycle of, fluff fluff fluff great technique/information, fluff fluff fluff great technique/information...

Brain-Based Learning: Very practical and insightful
This revised edition of Brain Based Learning is a wonderful edition to your professional library. In my opinion, it contains great information for anyone working with children. The neuroscience. biology, and psychology helps you understand the way the brain learns in school in an easy to understand format. All throughout the book there are sections titled “In the Classroom” that give tools to use immediately in the classroom. As school resumes. I plan to have my book readily available for quick reference. This is the first review I’ve written in my 26 years of teaching. That should tell you I was very impressed.
