Would buy again -- perfect
I have priced similar doors at Lowes and on-line and they run almost twice the price of these -- and they are no where near as nice looking as this set! I purchased this Fireplace glass door and screen to replace the 1980's brass fireplace glass door set that was original to my house. My house was built in 1983 and the fireplace is the standard brick masonry from the era. The old brass set was solid and gave good fire protection, but was old and tired looking. This unit is as solid as the old brass one and the fire protection is equal, but it looks great and it easy to clean. When I measured, I couldn't figure out whether I needed the medium or large set. My fireplace rough area is 28 by 37. I finally decided to go for the large one and I am glad I did. If I had purchased the medium size, it would have covered the fireplace, but only by 1/4 inch on the sides. The large one fits very nicely and covers the hole with several inches on each side --- very good fire protection. The mesh doors are cabinet style and have magnets to securely close -- They are very solid. The glass doors fold in half and open out completely -- this makes the doors easy to open and clean. When the doors are open, they are compact and lie flat against the frame. When the doors are closed they fit securely -- very solid. There is no track -- like the old brass fireplace doors.

Great Purchase
We were very pleased with the fireplace (screen/glassdoors) insert. The installation was easy and much faster than we thought it would be. Well designed and sturdy. Very happy with the company. I would definitely recommend!

Don't spend your money on anything else!
This product is fantastic! I went to a place called "The Hearth Store" and they started pointing me to fireplace doors starting at $750 and going all the way up to $2500 so let me share my observations of this. 1. The product is sleek and low profile. 2. The construction is not sloppy. The sheet metal is bent very nicely without sharp edges 3. The glass doors are solid and open nicely. 4. There are magnets that keep the doors closed and they are very strong. Not some flimsy piece of junk. The hearth store I went to tried to push me towards doors with magnets that started at $1000. 5. It took me about an hour to install but I was taking my time and that included removing my old screen. If you want a nice black fireplace door that looks great but doesn't detract from your fireplace (mine has nice woodwork and a marble surround) then this is a great choice. And dear lord, don't get caught up in the spend more get higher quality game. Its a door that MUST meet safety requirements because there's a FIRE on the other side. You'd be silly to spend $1000 on something that is going to get soot all over it! Save your money on a new front door or high end screen door instead! *Con* There is only 1 con and it may be specific to my fireplace. The top support (lintel?) that this bolts to on the top was difficult to attach because the thumb screws wouldn't catch on the 1/8 inch angle iron. It would slip when really tightened.

Very nice, but could use some minor improvements in quality control and service
These doors are very nice and I like them. They add a simple style to my fireplace while protecting the rug from sparks. They installed quite easily. Honestly, the hardest part of the install was unpacking the doors from the box. This item arrives extremely well packaged for shipping. This is a good thing. A couple minor issues however with the install. 1 of the door handles screw threads were stripped and it wouldn't stay on the door. I contacted the company and they quickly shipped me a new one that installed without issue. The next issue I had was my hearth was not level. The doors could benefit from some levelers on the bottom of the door frame. I asked for advice from the company on how they would go about leveling the doors, but they did not provide any advice. I ended up using some metal washers and then stuffing some extra insulation in the small gap underneath. This was a problem with my house and not the doors, however it would have been nice if customer service had at least tried to offer some solutions to my issue. The last problem, and one I have not yet tried to contact the company on, is that I noticed the glass door no matter how much I adjust it, does not sit flush when closed at the bottom. The problem as I found out is the placement of the magnet at the bottom of the frame. It is in a spot that is not grabbing/contacting the metal frame around the glass. This is a small, but annoying issue. Overall great doors with some minor quality control issues and decent/but not great customer service. I would recommend them.

Beautiful, modern
I bought these fireplace doors to replace the rusted out ones from the 1990's that came with the house. The ones I replaced simply had two clamps on each side to hold it in place, so I figured it would be easy to replace them. I was wrong. The Ascot model I bought has a clamp towards the bottom of each side, and two clamps on the top of the frame. The side clamps were easy, the top clamps had both my son and I crawling into the fireplace to try to get them to stay put. We followed the directions, watched the video twice, and still couldn't get the bloody things to stop popping off after we tightened the screws and let go. I finally had to create a dent into the lintel to set the point of the thumbscrew into so they didn't slide off. I ordered the large size because my fireplace measured 28" high by 36" wide, which falls right on the line where the sizes split. I probably should have gotten the medium because we had to pull the screen away from the wall to get the pressure bracket into the inside most holes on the screen, then push the screen back against the wall. If the fireplace had been even a half inch smaller it would not have worked. It currently June in North Carolina so we have not had a fire in the fireplace yet so I can't comment on how it works with a fire in it. It is keeping the kittens out of the fireplace and the a/c in the room, which was my main goal at this time. It looks really nice, much better than the fake gold, rusted one I had there previously.

Excellent product
We were pleasantly surprised at the packaging quality and instructions booklet - what a rare thing these days! Over all quality seems very good; itโs heavy and the finish is smooth and consistent. The brackets and screws all appear to be top quality, too. We got the Large and even though it says the opening has to be 36โ wide or more, it managed to fit in our 35 1/2โ opening, so I didnโt have to cut bricks as I had expected; another pleasant surprise. I definitely recommend having a 2nd person hold up the unit while tightening the brackets in the fireplace opening so you can use two hands. Itโs a beautiful door unit once installed. The glass and screen doors all feel tight and smooth when opening and closing, and everything lines up perfectly. So weโre super happy with it. Weโll see how it lasts and update the review if needed. One note to agree with other reviewers: the screen doors get hot, as expected, so be careful! I use a paint can opener to pull them open (it has a nicely hooked flat end), and an old pot holder to close them. Also, they like to slam a bit when the magnets get close, so if you have a baby sleeping or need it quiet, just be aware youโll need to be careful to try and close it slowly.

I'm very pleased. I did have a little issue with installation
I'm very pleased. I did have a little issue with installation, but it had NOTHING to do with the product! I have a house built in 1959 and the fireplace is a sandstone/flagstone product. The face is not smooth, and this door is taller than my old one. I found when I removed the old door that the face around the opening had been chiseled and worked smooth to make a uniform face for the old door to sit against. I had to enlarge that area, so out came the stone chisel and a large hammer. An hour and a half later, I had pared the flat area to the size of the new door frame and the remainder of the installation went smooth and flawlessly! None of the problems encountered by other was an issue. The top plate was perfect, at 3", the brackets and hardware worked perfectly and had lots of extra adjustment available, the side screws and attachments were ideal. If it hadn't been for the stone work, this install would have only taken about 20-25 minutes, and that includes unpacking and setup. I'm very happy with the door, it works great, and looks fantastic. It's much better made than my old one, which was probably 20 or so years old. I'll look for another one of these when I do my 2nd fireplace for sure!

(Used to be) Wow. Just wow. Solid product.
(Taking away four of the five stars from prior review. Quality has dropped significantly. Manufacturer saved a penny or three by making the top bracket screws so small that they fell through the slots in the bracket. Maybe they saved 50 cents in taking a product from perfect to inferior. Sad.) Not surprising that these are sold at the big home-improvement stores and everywhere else. Quality above reproach. Beyond that, their packaging ensured a safe, intact, delivery. Easy install after reading the directions and watching the YouTube video. Only complication was caused by a bit of irregularity by a former fireplace re-facer, but we coped. Not PH's fault. It's heavy... two-person install, definitely. Just did our first fire--- smooth and great. Definitely favor the double-hinged doors. If your fireplace is large, and you have the room, DEFINITELY go for the "Large" size. It looks great on a 36" fireplace.

Smoke problem
Smoke escapes from top onto bricks and is pain to clean after each use.
