Much improved over the first film's art book
The Art of Thor the Dark World is a major improvement over "The Art of Thor the Movie", which had far too many pages of abstract designs for Jotunheim, and too few of the main characters and Asgard. TDW has more visually stimulating settings, and the Dark Elves are also more interesting than Jotuns. And here, the text enhances and expands upon the art in a meaningful way.The book is laid out in a logical progression that mostly mirrors the film's narrative. All of the main characters have an updated look, but rather than just running through them all at once, they are covered as it relates to the story and settings. The movie opens with backstory narrative of the Dark Elves, and the Art book opens (after the introduction) with an overview of the Book of Yggdrasil, and how its design was based on illuminated texts. The film then jumps to our hero, Sif and the Warriors Three, engaged in battle. Thus, the book runs through their costume updates, as well as the development of Vanaheim, the look of its people and of the Marauders who are attacking them. The prose helps put the images in perspective by explaining the artists/filmmakers choices, and even how they tie back to the comic source. One of my favorite pages in this section is the evolution of Mjolnir, with a picture of each incarnation from the three films laid side by side. This made it much easier to see the subtle, but effective, differences. The book then devotes a hefty section to the development of the Dark Elves, their technology and ships. It was time well spent. I thought the ships in the film were visually stunning and very creative, and it was interesting to see how they evolved and from where the artists drew inspiration. The editor discusses how Malekith was necessarily adapted from his comic book look and how the elves' masks came to be. When Jane comes to Asgard, the book follows her there. Most of the rest of the book is dedicated to Asgard's updated look. Alan Taylor had a specific vision to ground Asgard in reality, while still showing their advanced technology. The book goes through each of the major sets of Asgard, such as the Throne Room, Hall of Science, Medina, Frigga's chambers and the dungeons. The section then highlights the changes to characters as they relate to Asgard: Jane, Heimdall, Odin, Frigga and Loki. The book closes with a very brief mention of the marketing for the film. Again, I feel Marvel should either expand on this or do a book specifically about the marketing for these films since it is so interesting. The exterior covers mimic the design imagery of the Book of Yggdrasil and the book comes enclosed in slipcase, with full color wrap-around imagery. The front of the slipcase has Thor from the teaser poster, and the back has Loki as seen on his character poster in the destroyed throne room. Overall, this book is incredibly well done and quite beautiful. Highly recommended.

THE HAMMER OF GOD
The art of the movie " Marvel's Thor - The Dark World " was very informative, but did not address the other ' dual - worlds ' of London which the story goes back and forth between the other site at Asgard. The artwork was great in detail and its varying degrees of how the characters and sets developed was great; however the sites with the Dark Elves fighting Thor in London, Asgard and Svartzlfheim -- triage of worlds were not depicted. For example, there was a dogfight with jets in the city of London, between the Dark Elves and Malekith that was great, but not identified within the book. The book seems to leave out the other primary characters (Marcie, the Professor) who also added the spectacle of inter reaction with the battle among the other worlds. The book did not address the other final scenes when the ' Ark ' fell onto Malekith after his battle with Thor or how the other worlds were trying to coexist with the London environment. I suppose this would have increased the number of pages in the book itself, but at least the reader would gain a complete understanding from watching the movie and having a published article as a needed reference for their collection. Overall, the artwork is fantastic and the characters are very interesting. I wish there was more drawings on the ' Ark ' and ' Harvester ' but you can't have it all.

The Masterful Art of Marvel Studios!
I have collected every single "Art of" book from Marvel Studios and this one is definitely one of the best, second only to the Avengers art book. One of the thing I love most about these books is that by describing the designs of the characters and scenes you actually get more details that further what you have already seen in the film. I also love to see all the different variations of the same character. For example, it was great to see all the designs for Malekith. You can see where they tried to make him look more like the comic book character, but then explained that his look in the comics wouldn't fit into the Cinematic universe if they translated it directly. Instead they take the "spirit" of the character and reshape it so it still retains ties to it's comic origins yet seamlessly fits into the movie world as well. I think Marvel does this better than any of the other film companies that make comic book movies.I buy these books because Marvel has the best design team in the business as far as I'm concerned. With each film this design team shows their love of the source material yet knows what is necessary to translate it to their movie universe. Keep up the great work Marvel!

Beautiful Book!
When I received this book, I was very impressed. First of all, the slip case was very hard and sturdy with beautiful illustrations on the front and the back. The actual book itself also had detailed front and back covers and very sturdy binding as well. The content of the book is very informative and goes into a lot of detail. It mentioned some things that I had not even noticed in the movie itself. All of the character descriptions, concept art, and ideas is very interesting as well. The pages are thick with very heavy ink that really adds to the overall look.Overall, this book is definitely worth the price if not more (I would not hesitate paying a higher price for it).

Go Marvel, Go Marvel, Go!
I probably one of the only few people that likes the character Thor. This book, whoever was heading it, needs more lighting on the pages. Many of it have dark pictures with pretty cool designs for the dark elves in the movie. The movie was alright, it was what I was hoping to be. After see Capitan America the Winter Soldier, and Civil War this film was no match for it. Over all the art book for it's prices was beyond reasonable to purchase.

Marvel's Thor: The Dark World - The Art of the Movie.
Yet another excellent volume from Marvel, published to accompany a major film in their franchise series – in this case the second Thor film “Thor: The Dark World”.Like it's companion volumes the book is beautifully and sumptuously produced – a solid hardback printed using glossy art paper and covering just about all aspects of design in the film - from characters, costumes and objects, to concept art for CGI sets and fantasy worlds. There are drawings, storyboards and digital 3-D projections for prosthetic and make-up work. All up to the usual high standard of Marvel, the book comes in a heavy slip-case and it makes both a fine companion to the film and a useful reference for those with an interest in good film concept design.Another great book for film fans.
