Starke Pro X Dual Speed 3HP 2.2kW Swimming Pool Spa Water Pump Self Priming

The product arrived with loose capacitor(?) housing on the motor; and broken plastic mount that attached the wire cable through the rear hole in motor body. I reattached the loose cylindrical metal housing on top of the motor body (screw barely fit) and secured the cable via electrical tape. Other than that, everything looks okay. Installed it with all the plumbing and wiring. It worked fine initially on either (hi/lo) speed, then after 15-20 minutes it shut itself off. I turned it off and back on again and all it just hummed…. on either speed, the motor never started again. I returned it and asked for refund. This product has very poor quality and disappointing results. I ordered a known brand name (Pentair) variable pump and its now working perfectly. Pool is blue again!

I installed this pump to replace a 20 year old Stark pump that had performed well and was still working but was hard to get started if shut off over night. It was a little shorter in height so had to add a spacer below it. All other dimensions were identical to the old spec pump so it installed easily. The electrical cable had a nice 5 pin connector but would not connect to my old system. I cut the fancy connector off and wired it directly into the pool electrical panel to a new 3 way switch which allows me to run the pump at high or low speed. I also installed a dedicated circuit breaker and separate power switch to easily turn the pump on and off. The pump has been working perfically for several weeks, about 6 hours per day. The motor gets hot (can't hold hand on it very long) but I reminder the old one got very hot. Over all I am very happy with it.

When fedex delivered pump. Opened box and don't know if it was during shipping or was like it. But screws were broke to hold starters on and screw and chuck of metal broke where cover goes to wiring connections. I fixed myself cause we were without a pump and needed hooked up. But other than that seems to run and work good.

No customer service, no technical support, no documentation. Electricians don't know what to do with it -- non-standard wiring for US. Nobody answers the Nevada phone number. No US reps, manufacturer is out of business. I am out electrician $175, $300 pump and can't return it.

Super powerful pump that works great! Took me about an hour to plumb it in and splice the wires. If you are upgrading from a single speed pump you will be required to purchase a separate switch to control the hi/low function of the pump.
