TruStar Organic Italian Chestnuts, Peeled, Ready-to-eat, 3.5oz Pouch (Pack of 12)

The best packaged chestnuts I've tasted. It costs an "arm & a leg" (due to shipping cost) to order fresh organic chestnuts from California. These organic roasted and peeled organic chestnuts from Italy are so convenient, too... no more hard, rotten ones that you invariably get when buying fresh ones. The price is reasonable; a packet is about $3+ - a lot better in quality than those dark, wet ones from China. These are great for snacking, but I will save a couple of packets to make Mary Berry's Christmas chestnut stuffing/dressing. I was amazed at the fast shipping; it was delivered many days before Amazon's promised date. I highly recommend this product and will definitely be buying again.

Love these chestnuts. Especially since they are from Italy and not China like it seems every other brand is. They are soft and so tasty. They are I feel expensive, so I only order them occasionally.

We wanted to make, in August, the chestnut roll cake we usually make during the holidays when fresh chestnuts are somewhat available. So we took a chance. And were glad we did. We used 6 of the 12 pouches, found just a few broken ones altogether. The chestnuts are not raw but are firm and taste good, they have no aftertaste nor are they waterlogged (as we found in the past with some tinned or frozen ones). [ I think they are cooked/steamed only once in the sealed pouch so the chestnuts themselves are never in contact with water, and keep their flavor] The price may seem a little high but once you factor in the price of fresh chestnuts and the time and work needed to peel them, they are worth it. Plus they are available any time. Very happy with this product.

Snacks .

Only drawback is that it takes quite some time to arrive but that said, the stuff is delicious ! Ordered again, came faster, so maybe it was a something else. It is always a terrible annoyance to peel chestnuts when you cook at home, they are very crumbly. I have no idea how they these get in the bag, mostly intact - some are broken, but it's all fine - I have one of those cutters that make an 'x' but it marginally helped... still, gonna try a couple times more with different ways to finish the chestnuts, but meanwhile, these are my go-to :-)

Received these chestnuts today, fresh, packaged perfectly and arrived undamaged. Been on a little chestnut kick lately, have ordered several different bands that were, soft, dark, soaking wet and had very little flavor as a chestnut. These are the most " next to roasting them yourselt " chestnut that I have ever purchased . They were light in color ( the way a fresh roasted chestnut is supposed to look ) and most of all WASN'T WET in some sugared liquid wash. LIstened to the TRUTH very closely, THEY TASTED LIKE YOU HAD ROASTED THEM YOURSELF and took the shell off and enjoyed them. These, I put in a small pan and heated them in a 325 degree oven for 10 minuted. This is why they looked and tasted just as you made them. The only reward that I get from writing detailed reviews, are to help peope from getting screwed by SOME sellers. I am telling you the truth and pure facts concerning this product. If you like fresh roasted chestnuts, you'll NOT be disappointed with these. All in all, they are a fair price for the amount and quality you receive. If you buy a pound of chestnuts in the shell for 6.99, by the time you shell and roast them, you may have 5 ounces of edible chestnuts, not counting your labor. I will be purchasing more. If you crave fresh roasted chestnuts, order youself several bags... Check the price for 1 pound of fresh chestnuts in the shell: 14.99. By the time you prepare them to eat, you'll have about 5 to 6 ounces to eat... 02-15-20: Well, I made a true honest comment about the fair price of the chestnuts. I bought quite a few bags for 32.99 ( Fair Price, considering ). Now they have raised the price to 42.99. Full 10 dollar gouge, overnight. They can keep them, I'll NOT purchase anymore. Gouged themselves right out of a vast amount of buyer's, I would say. LET 'UM ROT... 07-31-20: Well, guess what, they can sell these chestnuts at the price 32.99 again. I have bought more at the first original price at 32.99. None for me at 42.99. The price of 32.99 are a plenty for 12-3.5 oz packs. Still the best chestnut that I have ever ate, other than roasting them myself... Thought you might want to know...

Can’t beat the flavor/ freshness

Not sweet and delicious like fresh roasted, Italian grown marroni variety chestnuts. If you are not used to the better chestnuts, you should be happy with these.
