Africa is not a country. From the tiny island nations of Comoros, Seychelles, and Sรฃo Tomรฉ and Prรญncipe, to its largest country, Africa is the only continent with land in all four hemispheres. Unlike any other continent, it is divided into two almost equal lengths by the equator, and it is nearly as wide as it is long. Enter into the daily life of children in the many countries of modern Africa. Countering stereotypes, Africa Is Not a Country celebrates the extraordinary diversity of this vibrant continent as experienced by children at home, at school, at work, and at play. "The title says it all. Instead of the 'vanishing tribes' view of one Africa with tourists from different countries photographing the animals and primitive people, this informative picture book celebrates the diversity of the 53 nations that make up the continent today. . . readers will want to go on from here to explore in depth particular countries that interest them. The essential differences and connections are here." โ Booklist Review: Wonderful educational book! - This book is not just good for children, but great for adults as well. The history along with the illustrations are fantastic. I highly recommend it! Review: Lovely pictures, nicely written - Bought for a homeschool mini-unit on Africa. They 100% learned the concept behind the title, and enjoyed the short 1-2 page stories about different countries on the continent of Africa. Well chosen emphasis showing the wide variety of people, life styles, cultures and groups. Bought for 6, 8 and 11 year old. It was read aloud to them.

Beautiful Book
I bought this book for my 8yr old son so he could learn a little about the countries that make up Africa. I love the illustrations, and how they included all the countries flags. It was also nice how the author had a small story of the day in the life of the average kid in each country. It really shows how the continent of Africa is very diverse from languages spoken, to food eaten to climate and terrain. Even my 1.5yr old son loves to look at the pictures & flags!

Good information
I had purchased this book to use in a Montessori School in Nigeria. It is full of good information, but was not appropriate for the preschoolers I was working with. I would recommend the book for middle school children.

Love this book for little ones
My daughter (3) loves this book and I love reading it to her. We are both learning something. Lovely, vibrant illustrations keep her interest. Do note this only covers a few countries, and only about 1-2 "snapshot" paragraphs each, so it's more appropriate for little ones, up to maybe up to 6 or 7. There is a very nice guide in the back listing all African countries with a couple of key facts each. I would like it if there were a longer and more in depth version for older children. We can't get enough!

Kenia=lange Strecken laufende Kinder im Hochland=zukรผnftige Marathon-Lรคufer*innen, Ruanda=Vรถlkermord, Sรผdafrika=Soweto, Madagaskar=Lemuren Handlungsorte: Asmara/Eritrea, Palepo/Kamerun, Hochland/Kenia, Laden/Botswana, winterliche Berge/Lesotho, Kairo/รgypten, Schule/Ghana, Harare/Simbabwe, Flรผchtlingslager/Ruanda, Timpuktu/Mali, Fogo/Kap Verde, Cotonou/Benin, Abidijan/Elfenbeinkรผste, Zelt/Mauretanien, Bushaltestelle/Tansania, Strand/Senegal, Addis Abeba/รthiopien, Dorf/Sudan, Wohnzimmer/Demokratische Republik Kongo, Soweto/Sรผdafrika, Algier/Algerien, Tanzunterricht/Nigeria, Dorf/Somalia, Zoo/Madagaskar, abendliches Geschichten erzรคhlen/Togo
