A Tapestry of Strokes: Paint It Simply Concept Lessons

This is an excellent book, very well illustrated and with very clear instructions. To me, apart from the demonstrations, it shows David Jansen's love for his work and that that there is an aspect of visual art that cannot be taught; inventiveness/originality. However, even after watching his U-Tube videos, I cannot get to grips with his wet in wet painting method. It is certainly not as easy as he makes out. He paints white onto wet colour and the paint stays white. I wind up with a muddy mess. I find I can succeed if I underpaint a flower and let it dry first, before over painting. This negates some of the wet in wet flexibility, but for me, this method works. Living in the UK I don't use Heritage acrylics, but there are plenty of thick texture acrylics available here, together with extenders etc. It is just a pity that we don't produce books and instruction like this in the UK. I would recommend this book for the designs alone, and if you can work out his method, all the better.

Wonderful deal!

This is an excellent art instruction book, in fact, its probably one of the best around. The book starts with an overview of the materials used, covering brushes, paints and colour mixing methods and preparation.There are 10 lessons included in this book, each lesson has step by step instructions, each instruction has its own photo, for example, lesson 9 has 131 steps and illustration photos, so extremely detailed making it easy to follow the instructions. A pattern sketch is included with each lesson.These books are just a joy, and I would highly recommend them to the beginner and the more accomplished artist who wishes to learn this technique for floral art.
