The Field Description of Igneous Rocks (Geological Field Guide Book 41)

The book discusses igneous rocks from mineralogy, structure, and petrology. Great book to keep in your backpack for quick reference about anything you need to know to identify igneous rocks. Another great book by this author is "Introducing Volcanology-A Guide to Hot Rocks" which will expand your knowledge. All photos and diagrams are in full color in both books.

Its great to have a color, Kindle edition of this book for use in the field. But there are a few problems. The index has all the subjects but no page numbers. The fine print of some figures is unreadable. Biggest issue, though, is that there is more that could be said or shown in terms of rock and mineral identification.

It is an excellent handbook for field work on igneous rocks. Very well illustrated and didactic.

Great photos! Great text! Indispensable to anyone wanting to understand rocks. Highly recommended. You'll learn more than you bargained for.

A most useful pocket sized field guide. So why only one star. It should be in color, the review states this. In reality it is in monochrome, and the pictures are not that good at that. So, caveat emptor.

The Preface declares this edition to be a colour guide. In the copy I have received from Amazon all images (apart from the cover) are monochrome, and many are poor quality printing. The text is fine. I wonder if this is a non-original, pirated, or otherwise illicit printing - or are all copies not colour as declared?

Despite the 'look inside function' showing full colour images, and even the summary on the back of the book stating 'full colour throughout' - the images are in fact gray-scale.

Small enough to take on holiday & in a ruck sack. Useful .

I have received from Amazon a poor copy, a poor quality printing, missing pages. Is a non-original copy?.
