Product Description Blu-ray Edition. Sounds and Silence follows ECM producer Manfred Eicher to sessions, concerts and festivals around the globe, the search for sounds leading to Munich, Athens, Udine, Carthage, Tallinn and more. Featured musicians include Aarvo Paert. Review "An immensely fascinating, colorful film about passion, patience and sympathetic listening" -- Wolfram Schütte, Hof Film Festival"It does not take long until the viewer realizes what the camera is meant to capture here: not the protagonists but the music." -- Thomas Steinfeld, Süddeutche Zeitung"The film fascinates most when it makes the process of creating music visible and audible... There can hardly be a better choice for those who regard film as a school of listening." -- Wolfgang Sandner, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung "`Sounds and Silence' is an unusual experiment, an ambitious attempt to decode the language of music. The result is a highly original fusion of concert feature, artist's portrait, episodic film and road movie." -- Kai Löffler, WDR 3

One of the best videos I saw in 2011.
This is easily one of the best videos that I watched in 2011. It sounds *so good*! Watching the Arvo Part rehearsals/recording sessions is fantastic. Gianni Coscia and Gianluigi Trovesi are hilarious. Just watching all these people (Manfred Eicher included) is breathtaking. Can you tell that I love this video?

Not What I Expected
For those ECM followers that buy and listen to all the great jazz artists Manfred has on ECM, this video will be a severe disappointment. I was hoping to see the original, and great Norwegian jazz artists from ECM featured, but there is little to none of that. Jan Garbarek, Terje Rypdal, Arild Anderson, Jon Christensen, Palle Mikkolborg, and other ECM mainstays are nowhere to be found. The people that were responsible for this video must have done little to no research on what the ECM label is all about. I'm surprised Manfred approved of this documentary, because it has little of what made ECM what it is today. It seems Manfred has forgotten who it was that put him in the position he's in. Jazz musicians, specifically Norwegian jazz musicians. With the exception of German Eberhard Weber, and the Americans Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, and Gary Burton.
