It's a guy thing
I like this thing for many reasons, but my wife would not. It is a cylinder a bit over a foot long and three inches in diameter with an opening/attachment in the bottom and then the top fixed to a hollow tube, itself with a small hole at the top. Thumb over top hole and push cylinder to bottom of pool. The air cylinder tries to make it back to the surface, so you have to balance it – the upside down version of balancing a ten pound weight on a three foot pole – fun little game of dexterity. My wife would say “give me something that sinks down to where the stuff is, and has a nice little switch”. So you take your thumb off the hole, and it whistles as the water rushes impressively fast into the cylinder. Fascinated, you go back to your school physics and work out that even the one-and-a-half pounds a square inch that you have at three feet down creates quite a flow. Great, a bit of science, and yes, the trash gets sucked up. But it fills within seconds so you have to repeat the fun process several times. My wife would say “give me something that goes down and stays down till the job is done”. (A bit like – oh, maybe better not!). So now you’re done and you leave it by the pool. Next day a few more bits of trash, so you grab it again – “yuck, take that thing away from me – who knows what crawled into that hole overnight to wait to bite your thumb, and it’ll turn septic, they’ll have to amputate your arm, and then I suppose you’ll expect me to nurse you. It does not pump the water out the back of the device while under water, and that gives two distinct advantages. 1) you push it under the surface and you can see your target without the surface disturbance that battery or hose powered units give. 2) Some crud is too fine for any filter - e.g. our tub is filled from a well and the really fine black goes through even a pantyhose filter. This thing you quickly pull out and let it empty on the ground, black stuff and all, where the battery units just let it back where you sucked it from. But leaving it outdoors is the real advantage. Guys know that low voltage battery power and water are a turbulent marriage. Even with a seal, humidity and corrosion of terminals and motor bushes wreak their havoc. So now your wife has finished with it, and she is happy to leave it overnight, but you know that will not do. So you take it in, empty it, shake it, towel it dry and put it in a low moisture place. Next day, there is your wife in the spa with beside it the dripping battery vacuum that she had used to take out one small leaf. You do your best Charlie Brown “Good Grief” impression! This thing has no batteries, no terminals, no metal to rust. You leave it by the pool like a trusty fishing rod. Next day you see that little leaf and a few grains of sand. You sip your frosty, grab your sucking-spear, blow any nasties out the hole (maybe she was right on that one!), masterfully drive it to the bottom of the spa while expertly controlling the bucking cylinder with muscly coordination, aim at your prey and suck that sucker up. Then you lean your trusty weapon against the wall, grab your frosty again and join that lovely lady in the warm water. Like I say, it’s a guy thing.

Heaven Sent
We have a 21', above ground pool with a filter that needs replacing. It no longer filters out dusts and clays, so using my pool pump/vacuum has become a waste of time. I saw the Paradise Spa Vac (PSV) in use at a Hilton Garden Inn a few weeks ago. Their pool guy demonstrated it for me and told me that it saves him so much time with cleaning both the pool and hot tub. He also said that it was easy to use. I just got my PSV yesterday. MY POOL IS NOW CLEAN!! No motors, no batteries, solid aluminum telescoping pole, clear window to view the "dirt" collected. When I woke this morning, there was barely any material collected on the bottom of the pool. I almost dropped to my knees and thanked the gods of spa cleaning for such a wonderful tool. Step 1: hold your finger over the hole at the end of the telescoping handle. Step 2: push the vacuum end under water and place the suction tip in front of pool "dirt". Step 3: remove finger from hole at the same time you move the tip over the dirt Note: water and dirt fill the canister in 4 to 5 seconds Step 4: holding vac vertically with suction end on bottom, lift the vacuum above the surface of the water. Note: water will filter out leaving dirt in the filter, though a tiny bit can, a sometimes does get past the filter. Step 5: repeat Steps 1-4 two more times. Step 6: with dirty water in canister and holding over the ground, unscrew tip/filter section from PSV & dump out water. Note: this should wash out most, if not all, of the dirt collected. Now for the negative stuff. Neg 1: I found that I had to unscrew the tip/filter section to empty the filter of all that it collected after (3) swipes. Now this is by no means a true negative, since it is not meant to clean your entire pool. Neg 2: after 6-8 uses, rinse out the filter (mesh layer & white filter layer). Neg 3: after 6-8 uses, check the filter to make sure that it stays in place as sometimes in rises out of position. Neg 4: be gentle as the plastic parts don't feel very rugged. I'm going to buy one more of these and a rew replacement parts before the end of the summer. I just want to be sure that I have one of these around for summers to come.

Finally something that picks up sand and grit!
Got this for our swimspa which is fairly deep and fairly long but the extending handle was able to allow me to reach opposite corners. After a bit of skepticism, I tested it out and a quick gurgle-shplort later, the pile of debris in the corner was in the chamber! Pros: - no power needed - lightweight - easy to use - fairly easy to clean. - made well for the price Cons: - In shallower water, suction isn't as strong but it's relying on water displacement so there's no real way around this. It's physics. - The chamber could be a bit larger so that each pass lasts a little longer. Great for maintenance but if you're trying to clean a spa that's filthy, this isn't going to be anywhere as effective as a vacuum. Tips: - Get any debris on surfaces that are in less than 12 inches of water pushed to the floor. In fact if you can brush your entire tub or spa to get the debris into a pile at the deepest area, do that. - To get dirt out between the screen and the filter, just turn the unit upside down and gently use a garden hose with some pressure (not too much that you'll damage the screen) to flush out the debris.

easy and quick to use
I have a hot tub and have been looking at vacuums for a long time. I finally decided to buy one and wish I had bought this years ago. So very easy to use. It is perfect for that quick little cleanup.

Doesn’t hold up
This product is a great idea BUT unfortunately it didn’t hold up. We had it less than 2 months and it no longer works. There’s a little flap inside that opens and closes to trap debris. The flap will no longer close for us after maybe 6 uses. Save your money.

A clever, but inefficient tool for occasional light cleaning only
Pool pros don't take this tool seriously and always carry a power vacuum, which, of course, costs a lot more. I bought this vacuum on my friend's say-so as a new pool owner without doing independent research. I had serious problems with sediment and debris in my spa. It rained a lot, and I think the rain was washing the crumbling sandstone into the spa. The gardeners may have contributed by blowing in some dirt from the planter. While the spa had a lot of sand and debris on the bottom, this tool was a nightmare to use. The first use was great: it sucked a lot of muck from the bottom. Then I had to clean it after 3-4 uses because 1)the sand would clog up the filter and 2)the valve that is supposed to let the water in and out and keep the debris in would randomly get stuck in an open position letting the debris back out. Cleaning is easy enough, but tedious. I ended up keeping a bucket of water by the spa so that I could rinse out the vacuum every minute or two without having to turn on the hose and waste water. Since I finally cleaned my spa, and the rains stopped, I like this tool a lot better now that I don't have to use it except for an occasional removal of debris from the bottom. I probably would not buy it again, but having bought it, believe it will continue serving the purpose of occasional light cleaning. If your spa gets a lot of sediment and debris, you need to invest in a "real" vacuum.

This is a great tool!
I read lots of the product reviews before purchasing, because I was skeptical that this Spa Vac would work as advertised. Vast majority of reviews were extremely positive, but there were a few negative (1 Star) reviews. After purchasing and using this Spa Vac, I couldn't be happier with the results - no assembly required, and it's so easy to use - just follow the simple instructions on the box. It captures the silt and other things that collect at the bottom of the spa and on the spa seats. Yes, you have to pull it out after only a few seconds of suction, but it collects all those items. Then, you simply let the water drain out of the Spa Vac back into your hot tub - the items it collected are captured in the screen. It took me only 5 minutes of doing this and repeating it to clean all the silt and tiny rocks from the bottom of the spa and the spa seats. Easy to clean out the screen when I was done. This gadget is well worth the money spent! Those that wrote negative reviews must not be using it correctly, because it works as advertised. Just follow the instructions.

UhMazing Gadget
I don't normally write reviews of things I buy on Amazon because I normally know I am going to like them or have used them in the past from a retail store. This time I had to take time to write a note. I purchased a hot tub, zero experience maintaining one but have been learning as I go. Over time, some rubber mulch particles and little pebbles or sand that don't make it through bio degrade or chemicals or spa filter settled in the bottom. I researched and decided to purchase a pool vac, didn't want one that required plugging in because of water or charging and decided to try this one thinking it would probably be a joke. When I got it I was like "what? yes, sure,,,,,hold your thumb over a small hole at the end of a broom like handle and it will pick up pennies and rocks etc. and that's it?". My first thought was I will give it a try and save the box because this one will surely be going back. WELL. let me tell you, I am in amazement. Best darn thing I ever bought in terms of a home maintenance tool for outside. Lightweight, works like magic, easy to use, and while it requires multiple times, it's so darn simple, just hold your thumb on hole, suck it up, let the water back out and dip again. The spa was spotless in under 10 minutes, the entire bottom of it and clean up is a breeze. To add to that, no assembly, no crazy instructions, also has visuals and I am super happy I bought this. Amazing product and no complicated stuff. Genius! Who knew, a siphon system that works like a charm.

Sucks up sand and debris and puts filtered water back in the spa!
This thing works great! I had previously bought one very similar (and about $12 cheaper), but it did not work at all and was missing advertised pieces. So I returned it and bought this one and I’m so happy I did. It is so easy to use and is slim enough that it fits easily in a closet. No more trying to scoop out little bits of sand from our spa! It filters the debris from the water and when you lift it out of the water, the filtered water goes back in the hot tub. Video attached to show. We love it and it’s fun to use.
