I have noticed a tiny bit of a wiggle when piecing this together. Is that right or do the pieces lock into place without any give?

Yes, I experienced a bit of wiggle as well. I believe it is because of the nature of cutting the material that the pieces simply won't press-fit together the same way a cardboard cut puzzle would.
