Wonderful Relief for our Golden Retriever w/Allergies
We have three beautiful Goldens. One who we adopted at 1 1/2 years old and is now 9+, has had allergies all of his life. We've helped him get relief through a controlled diet, including, avoidance of any foods that we know can aggravate his condition, routine flea/tick control, gentle shampoos when bathing him and ongoing supervision from our very excellent and supportive vet. Still, with all we do, he needs the help of Antihistamine during the year, especially late Spring and early Summer when the pollen and "bugs" are out in force. In prior years we purchased locally, Benadryl and then eventually more generic brands (Kinney's, etc) to help reduce the cost a bit. With the many great reviews here on this product, we decided to give it a try since many reviewers indicated it gave wonderful results and the price was not bad at all. Our vet approved of it as well, since I passed this product link by him for his approval. He said fine and to give it a try. By body weight (our boy is a big Golden), he is taking 2-3 doses per day, I give him 2 in the morning, 2 mid-day, but, only if needed and he's having a rough day w/ his allergies, and then 3 tabs with his evening meal to give him extended comfort over-night. Dogs metabolize medication much faster then humans and this dosage probably would be too high for a person, but, per our vet and past years experience of dosing our dog, this regiment is perfect for him. Bottom line is the first day he started on this med, he got immediate relief. It was very obvious. He scratched and rubbed his itchy chin far less with the help of this antihistamine. We also have a vet prescribed lotion (similar to Calamine for dogs) to give him if needed, but, we've backed off the lotion substantially since this brand of allergy medication is really doing it's job. I can't say enough of how pleased we are with the excellent benefits and results we've gotten using this brand. That said, I've ordered several more bottles to be sure we have this on hand and we do plan on using this Allergy med through the summer until the cold and freezing of winter return and our boy is more comfortable then due to the absence of pollen and ticks and fleas. (this is the pattern we've been through every year with him). Price-wise, this med is a great value (especially given the 7 or less pills per day for our dog's dosage) and more important then that, it does work extremely well and provides a lot of relief for our handsome big guy. Highly recommend. We're very satisfied with this product!

Has your pet suddenly started sneezing often? This is the same product the vets prescribe for less!
This works great for my cat’s allergy symptoms. I had to look up the correct dosage for my cat as it is given based on their weight, so make sure you check online before giving these to your pet. My cat is to get 1/2 a tablet twice a day until the symptoms subside. Unfortunateley this product only lasts a few hours for a human. It works like benedryl, but it doesn’t make you drowsy. Can’t say the same for my cat though. It seems to last a bit longer than 3 hours, & he seems to be sleepy. I think he is just probably exausted from his symptoms keeping him from getting much sleep lately though. Its the same product as the veternarian’s offices prescribe pets for symptoms of general allergies, but a lot less expensive.

Review and Dosage
Our little dog has been suffering from allergies this year, and while switching to Flint River Ranch Food for Dogs helped some, it didn't totally get rid of the uncomfortableness our pup must be in. I was a little concerned about buying medication from Amazon, but being OTC and not seeing any negative reaction my worries were greatly reduced. Note: this review should not be interpreted as professional medical or veterinary advice - I'm simply reporting my findings as a consumer. DOSAGE According to 1-800-PETMEDS (source cited in the comments) the following recommendations are made: "How this medicine should be used: Chlorpheniramine is not FDA approved for use in veterinary medicine; however, it is a commonly accepted practice to use this medication in dogs and cats. The usual dose for dogs is 2-8mg every 8-12 hours. For cats the usual dose is 1-2mg every 8-12 hours. Do not open or crush the long-acting capsules. What are the side effects: Side effects may include drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. Dry mouth and urinary retention can also occur. What special precautions are there: This medication should not be used in animals allergic to chlorpheniramine or similar antihistamines. Do not use chlorpheniramine when it is in combination with other medications such as acetaminophen or caffeine such as found in various cold and sinus products. Do not use in pregnant or lactating animals. Do not use in patients with glaucoma, prostate disease or urinary obstruction, stomach or intestinal obstruction, high blood pressure or hyperthyroidism. Use caution when given with phenothiazines such as acepromazine and other central nervous system (CNS) depressant medications. Chlorpheniramine should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as selegiline and Preventic tick collar. Use caution when given with metoclopramide. Always tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what other medications your pet is taking." While this hasn't totally dealt our pup's allergies, she is itching noticeably less and seems a little happier. Before switching foods and using this product she would try and scrape her face against the carpet floor and would cough and sneeze on a daily basis. Since using the Chlorpheniramine the sneezing and coughing has all but ceased, and her scratching is MUCH reduced. Keep in mind, our dog only weighs 24lbs and her allergies weren't severe as diagnosed by our vet, so your mileage may vary of course! Overall, for the price paid we are definitely satisfied, and would recommend to anyone to give this a try - for $5 you really aren't wasting money on useless medication!
