The Drill America DWT Series 3/8”-16 UNC High Speed Steel bottoming tap is an exceptionally well-made tool that delivers performance well above expectations for an HSS tap. The tap feels very sturdy in use, exhibiting minimal torsional flex while maintaining excellent control during cutting. The flute geometry strikes an ideal balance—deep enough to provide efficient chip evacuation without compromising core strength. Cutting edges are notably sharp, allowing the tap to start easily and track straight with minimal effort, even when beginning threads close to the bottom of a hole. Having primarily used carbide taps, I was initially hesitant to return to high-speed steel. However, this tap exceeded expectations by a wide margin. It cuts cleanly, resists chatter, and demonstrates impressive durability across repeated use. Thread quality was consistent and required very little force compared to many general-purpose hand taps. For the price point, this represents exceptional value and professional-level performance suitable for both hand tapping and powered applications. Highly durable, easy to control, and easy to recommend.

Received In brand new perfect condition very well packaged item. The tap die comes in a very nice container. So it is protected nicely. It worked perfectly for my antenna project. Cleared out some metal shavings. Great tap would buy again if needed. Highly recommend!!

Quality looks ok (haven't used it yet) but they sent the wrong tap. I ordered the bottoming tap and got a tapered one. Not going to bother returning for the 7 bucks but disappointed I need to order another part and wait again to finish my projects now.
