This is a must read for base line in understanding video system

When a student asks me where to start I hand them this and the Pincus book. This is a resource, not a textbook. It lays out the base for understanding digital technology in a concise, thorough way. It I ncludes a history of the legacy technology that evolved into what we use today, and that still underlies some aspects of current systems and tools.

It's surprising how much I didn't know about my own field even after 3 decades spent working in it. This book is well written with clear explanations of complicated engineering concepts. Everyone who works in (or aspires to work in) the industry should have a copy of this -- and read it!

I liked this book. It gives a good overall introduction to the video realm without being too boring. Other books that cover this topic have been too in-depth for me or too generalized.

It's getting so hard to find a good book on technical subjects these days. One might even consider learning a different language so they can regain hope. This book is a great toilet read.
