Complete Guide to Drawing Animals

This book appears to be the English version of "Tiere Zeichnen" and it is every bit as good as the author's human figure drawing books. It is far more comprehensive than the "Artist's Guide to Animal Anatomy" and therefore is a more complete reference for the artist. Unlike so many other references, Bammes approaches the study of artistic anatomy by focusing on form and structure and not smaller anatomical details. I especially like how he explains the similarity of form between different species of animals. When used together with other, more scientifically oriented references, his books helps the artist to get a much clearer understanding of animal anatomy. It doesn't matter if you're an experienced artist or someone starting out. Any artist that depicts animal forms in their work can find something useful in this book. It is truly a "must have" addition to any artist's reference library.

This has more information on animal physiology and anatomy, on more animals than I have ever seen. If you do animal art, you need to have this book in your library. EXCELLENT!

This is a wonderful book for anyone wanting to draw or sculpt animals. Great pictures and descriptions. One problem with the book is that the index is incomplete. For example, there is no index entry for "giraffe", yet I found useful information/pictures about giraffes on three separate pages. the book is still worth it, just know that you need to browse the pages and not rely on the index. Whoever created the index was a bit lazy. However, it is easy to flip through the pages to find out if your animal is included. There was one page torn out at the beginning of the book that I wish the seller had mentioned. I don't think there was anything significant on it and it does not seem to have any effect on my usage of the book, but it would have been nice if the seller had disclosed it in the description instead of failing to reveal that info. Bottom line: Great book! Well done.

This book helps an artist to improve their anatomy, ability to measure proportions more accurately and the feeling of gravity or weight in the muscles and limbs. I found it to be useful for helping my skill sets improve.

The book arrived in great condition and I will enjoy using it.

Very comprehensive book for understanding animal form and design. Yes, the text can be a bit tedious at times and the approach is not always intuitive. But the information is sound and if worked through attentively there is much to learn here. This is one of those rare books that doesn't promise instant, effortless success and instead demonstrates the deliberate effort necessary to learn something well.

It's especially helpful for people studying academic drawing or preparingto enter art or animation schools after high school. Livro obrigatório para quem quer evoluir seu desenho de animais. O autor se dedica explicar como os animais se movimentam, como e porque a anatomia animal é diferente em cada animal. Gottfried Bammes é um mestre em anatomia e em anatomia animal. A única coisa que torna o livro mais difícil são os termos em inglês. Para quem não tem domínio total do inglês e dos termos, fica um pouco difícil entender o texto. Meu sonho era que este livro fosse traduzido. Enquanto não acontece, vale muito ter este na biblioteca.

it is great for studying

This is the third Bammes-authored book I've purchased and got a lot out of each one. Translated from the German; the text is quite dense. I was struggling with the anatomy for a dog portrait and it was quite helpful. Good for a range of carnivore or herbivore creatures and explains why they are built the way they are. It helps if you have some background in human or animal anatomy / structure. The ultimate reference book on the topic and very substantial; great illustrations. I ordered it previously and after 1.5 months and no arrival, they gave me a refund.
