Laugh-out-loud, read-in-one-sitting easy read
Fun easy read. If you're looking for laugh-out-loud, read-in-one-sitting books and enjoy travel writing this is a fun book. The honesty and no-BS approach to describing travel on the cheap meant that, having done that myself, I could empathize; that was enjoyable. If you're travelling to South America it will give you insight into a limited number of places but it isn't trying to be a guide book. Not a literary masterpiece but it isn't trying to be one either.

Kiwis Abroad.. Look out !
An entertaining light hearted easy to read book abundant with adventures! The Kiwi ( New Zealand ) humour shines through at every twist in the plot. If you are an advert adventure loving traveling; of the armchair variety, seasoned developed world nomad, or nervously excited wide eyed newbie its bound to inspire you into strapping on the backpack. Or you may opt for that luxurious hotel instead.Either way you are in for actionpacked "Faulty Tower" styled adventures and at least a giggle or three!

What a dull book!
Searching for books on travel to South America, I purchased this book for my kindle. I don't really know what to say about it, as it was just...nothing. I came away from reading it not having learnt much about South America, travel adventures or even an understanding of the authors, Tony and Amanda. The book reads like some not-so-well-written emails to folks back home, or possibly a travel blog, but does little to draw in its reader. It's mainly along the lines of "we got up, had breakfast, arrived in some town, did a trek, met another traveller, then went to bed". Travellers they meet are not well-intoduced, and, to be frank, there was nothing interesting or special about their journey.

What the the travel guide of choice forgot to mention...
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Any traveler can relate to the absurd and hilarious situations that these two find themselves in!While this not a guidebook, per se, there is a ton of practical stuff in here that other travelers and trekkers will find useful (the many mistakes and successes on their journey), so I would definitely recommend buying this along with the travel guide of choice.

Fun
I chose this rating because the fun I had reading this book. Honest and upfront, Tony Hastie paints a vivid picture of "down and dirty" traveling. I am envious.

Amazing adventure, written in the form of a diary
Amazing adventure, written in the form of a diary, giving a true accouny, the good and the bad of places in S. America. Very down to earth almost felt I was sharing the experience.

A unique take on the ubiquitous Kiwi roadie
Best book I ever read- I should know, I edited it :DA fun privilege to be part of my bro's journey. His dry sense of humour really shines through.

Fun!
What a fun read this was! Having traveled in Bolivia and other parts of SA I could relate to much of what was said. I enjoyed the authors humor and Amanda's little comments. Now I'm ready for more adventure.

Fabulous account of Tony and Amanda's travels in South America
I loved reading this account of the year that Tony and Amanda spent travelling, the highs and the lows made fascinating reading. The book, whilst being very informative, doesn't set out to be a travel guide but is a very personal and highly readable record of their travels and encounters. The pictures are fabulous, and I especially enjoyed Amanda's comments on Tony's version of some events!

Great value for money!
Tony and Amanda's epic adventures in South America provided me with a couple of weeks lighthearted bedtime reading. George Mahood recommended it on his Facebook page and I really enjoyed it. Thanks, both!

Enjoyable and very informative
I rang enjoyed reading about all the places and the treks. It's well written and quite funny. My only gripe was the odd comment by the authors partner, it made the read a bit bloggy.

Good read
Liking the book so far, bringing back memories of when I went to Chile and Bolivia. Would have preferred it if the photos were in color though.
