Realm of Dragons (Age of the Sorcerers—Book One)

Volume One of Umpteen
Booksellers are like Drug DealersThey give the kids free samplesBecause they know so wellThat today's young innocent facesAre tomorrow's clienteleI rather like it - lots of intriguing characters, plus of course dragons - one dead, one alive. It's not a book in itself though - it's volume 1. Well, it's fairly normal for a fantasy novel to be a trilogy, in fact it's the Lore. Tolkien did it, and of course Dickens did weekly serialisations. So I probably shouldn't complainBut I found it unsatisfactory - it obviously isn't a full story - it's just introducing the characters and setting the scene. The test of these things is - did I like it enough to pay actual money for Volume 2?And I think - probably not

Storylines but no endings
I like a story to have a beginning, a middle and an end. Don't get me wrong, I expect there to be hooks that might be developed in a later novel, but there should be at least one storyline that is completed. This book has a wealth of storylines, with plenty of beginnings, some bits of a middle, but no endings. I quite enjoyed the characters, but there was no story, only hooks to to the next book in the series. Sorry, but I won't be buying any of them.

Easy and Quick Read
This is an easy to read and quick fantasy novel. Many of the characters were interesting but maybe a little one dimensional and I felt there were too many POVs, some of whom we never get to see interact with the main plot. I know this is book 1 in a series so maybe it will all tie together in a later book, but it just felt a bit messy. There's not a huge amount of magic stuff in this book but I thought the plot was good enough to keep me interested. The world building created a pretty solid world with a fraught history.Overall, a quick and fairly simple fantasy novel with some minor dark elements.

Great book shame about the ending !
I thoroughly enjoyed the book till about half way when it suddenly kept shifting from the story of each different character. One short chapter each and you had to remember 5 different plots. I kept going and then when it ended only one story had been told. All the others were left open. Such a shame!😞

A good read if you like the genre
The first book is written well and has a good steady pace to it. As I have read Morgan’s prior series (The sorcerer’s ring), the pace and themes of this new series feels somewhat familiar. That isn’t to say they are the same story and characters, but rather they based on similar themes...i.e. kings and sorcerers, dragons, knights, love and betrayal, adventure and so forth. Exactly what I was looking for to be fair. I have enjoyed the first book and I am halfway through the second at the moment. If you like epic fantasies based on the themes mentioned above, then you may like this series. I would recommend.

An amazing start to an epic fantasy adventure.
I absolutely love detailed worlds woven into epic fantasy books and this looks like the start of something amazing. The characters, the works, the plot and everything inbetween has me hooked and wanting more. I’d definitely recommend this!

Great beginning
I was given an ARC of this story and I thought it was a great beginning to another fantasy tale from this author. The setting is a fantasy realm of kings and knights, magic and majestic lands. The characters are many and varied, each lending themselves to a fascinating and adventurous read. There are heroes and villains but maybe the lines are not all clear yet.Yes, a great start to a great story.Highly recommended.

A promising start.
A royal family In torment over the deadly 'scaling' disease affecting their youngest daughter; a threatened invasion by a rival kingdom; a young master wordsmith discovers fledgling magical powers; fraternal rivalries; a pending wedding. Throw in the appearance of a dragon hatchling and you have all the ingredients of a cracking new series!
