Now that Cross Writing Instruments are being made in China (They have been for a while), there seems to be a drop in their quality, noticed by every writer facing the frustration and balance issues of a pen cap that fails to stay secure on the back of the pen while writing. Fortunately, most of my Cross Pens are "vintage." So, the challenge is only to secure the proper refill. My preference ranges widely from fountain pen, to rolling ball, to felt tip, medium sized. The refills for these pens are fast-approaching a price that might rival the cost of half, or a quarter of the price of the pen. That's not a good return on your money. Imagine buying a $50,000 car that can use only one type of tire, and they cost $15,000 a piece. Oh! And the tires average about 20,000 miles before needing to be replaced. Oh! And your daily commute is about 120 miles round trip. Starting to sweat a little, or were you taught "new math" and deciding a pencil is better, and just makes sense?! I've been using the medium felt tips, or porous points, recently. They are often over $12.00 a piece. I was fortunate to find this vendor, with a cost of around $9.00 a piece through Amazon. However, I can run through an entire refill with just a day and a half of heavy note-taking. I have tried to find another manufacturer of refills that fit these pens, but struck out so far. Levenger used to have refills. But, it seems they no longer sell them. I was happy to find the more reasonable prices here, along with quick, reliable shipping. But, like that special car I mentioned, my Cross Pens may be up on blocks soon. The Waterman's are ready to pinch hit. Oh! And the big kicker: The Cross brand website often fails to have the medium porous points listed. And, if you make the mistake of requesting to be notified, you will receive daily repetitive texts about their great sales, but still no porous point refills. You've been warned. This is probably your best bet for the foreseeable future.

I write a lot. My favorite pen for years has been the Precise V7 rolling ball. Nothing ever came close to it for dependibility, smooth, even ink flow. I also use it a lot for drawing in sketchbooks. NOW, I discover the porous point pen from Cross and it has definitely overtaken the most favored status in my toolbox for writing. I did have my reservations about using a porous point, however this pen is fabulous ( it also works excellently on thin 'rice' paper which I use to make my own journals)...am so glad I can order these refills on amazon, I went to three office supply stores without any success. Highly recommend.

La calidad Cross se nota. No es barato; pero esto ya se sabía. Es un recambio complicado de encontrar. Ahora todo son Roller. Este es de fieltro, y tiene una escritura especial. Yo lo uso hasta para bocetar. El trazo que deja es muy chulo. Aunque tiene un sistema que retrae un poco la punta (un poco solo), es muy delicado. A mi me encanta.
