Great Fun Little Camcorder!
I got a great deal on this camera with a Gold Box offer. I originally was looking at those one-button video cams before I found this deal. With the 100 clams price and all the features this camera has, it was a no-brainer to pick this one. The ergonomic angled lens really makes it comfortable to shoot a lot of video. The SDHC card format is perfect for my laptop and the editing software right in the camera is so convenient and saves time. The battery life has been fine for me, but I usually take only short clips, don't use the zoom too often, and try to avoid playing the clips over and over in the display. Those tips will give you a lot more battery time. The quality of the video is good, but don't expect HD video quality! My videos look good on my HDTV and are better quality than my old JVC digital tape camcorder. The time-lapse feature is really cool! I haven't tried uploading to YouTube yet but have had no problems transferring videos to my PC. This camera is very simple to use, has lots of fun features, and is small enough to fit in a pants pocket. It's a little bigger than a bar of soap. I sometimes keep it in my cargo shorts pocket when hiking, but don't expect it to fit comfortably in any tight fitting jeans pocket! It's perfect for what I wanted: a small video camera to carry on vacation trips, camping, fishing, or just out playing with my dogs. I think the negative reviews for this camera are from folks that were expecting much more than what this camera already offers. No, it doesn't have night vision, a flash, a lens cover, or work with Macs, among other complaints, but the description never listed those features so why give it a negative rating? It looks more expensive than it was, it takes good video, it's easy to use, I have fun with it, and I think it was a great buy! That's five stars as I see it!

Good but not Great ~ Does work with Mac
My wife repeatedly wished for an inexpensive camcorder with a better zoom than our flip Ultra provided. This seemed like a good compromise and that's exactly what it is...a compromise. What we gained in functionality was offset by the user experience. The camera does indeed have a very useful optical zoom that comes in handy in situations where you can't get right next to your subject. Being able to zoom in closer allows for greater flexibility when shooting home movies. The camera is easy to use and straight forward in its operation. It was out of the box and up an running in minutes. My wife, an admitted technophobe will have no trouble using this. As the person who extracts the video and turns it into DVDs or uploads the video to youtube or our webpage the task isn't quite so easy. All of the literature and reviews indicate that this camcorder will work with any "PC". As a Mac user I wasn't sure if that included me. I did a tremendous amount of research, including SAMSUNG's website, and couldn't get a clear answer. As it turns out, the built in software only works with windows. But, a Mac user can use iMovie to access the files on the memory card and import them for editing and sharing. It's not a hard process but not as easy as other more "Mac-friendly" camcorders and certainly not as easy as the flipshare software included with the flip which makes uploads and sharing a breeze. Editing video from the flip in iMovie requires the same file access methodology but that's only when needed...for the quick youtube upload the flipshare software works like a charm. It's a shame that Samsung didn't take Mac users into consideration when creating their software. So, long story short...it's a nice, small, easy-to-use camera with a decent zoom lens. Probably great for someone running windows but merely adequate for someone using a Mac.

it's not a piece of garbage, just retarded and intelli" stuido is dumb.
first off, how do you come up with a design that places the lense upwards. being "originally pattened" or just Stupid. Why not make it a normal cam corder that you can point at something and know it is the target without looking at the veiw screen? Second, and I just gotta say this now. INTELL STUDIO IS RETARDED!!! you cannot load from a memory SD card, it just converts everything to .spl or some wierd unreadable file. Intel studio isn't compatible with Windows Movie maker it will auto-convert all your files to it's neeeds it loads and reloads all your movies(billions and billions) everytime you "save" a project's progress if your lucky that is. It will crash every three minutes so you can't even work on the editing and have to reboot the PC as it is too unstable it crashes Windows vista to a blue screen and is why I believe a construction worker MUST blame his tools, not his skill at labor! as in tools, these suck!!! The camera itself is weird the lense points upward the view screen is hard to read outside on sunny days and the picture quality is lame in lowlight(that is NOT nighttime, just low light) condtions. go to the caves of "Black Canyon of the Gunasen" and see what I mean. Go to the underside of a cliff on a full sunny day in the grand canyon you'll see what I mean. Go stick it in your garage and open the door it only see's the daylight, not your garage. that's how "smart" it is and that's on any setting including "smart" auto". Set it on "Speed" and you'll get blur, in other words the opposite effect of shooting in a moving car or a horse race. The software is glitched(latest version, I don't review non patched material)they do not plan on updates though "auto" updater is a feature it is retardedly useless! I wouldn't trust this camera to keep my papers from blowing away in the south wind of my sunroom office desk much less as it's intended purpose!
