Are You an Ant? (Backyard Books) [Allen, Judy, Humphries, Tudor] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Are You an Ant? (Backyard Books) Review: Helped reduce fear of ants - My four year old was having nightmares and fears about giant ants, and I thought we might be able to make ants less scary with a little more knowledge. I thought the lovely illustrations and informative, yet story-like text that encourages the reader/listener to imagine being the ant in this book might help. Sure enough, it's become a bedtime favorite, and the giant ant nightmares are gone. I had a brief flash of anxiety that giant bird nightmares might emerge, but fortunately my kiddo thinks the image of a bird trying to do anting with a person is funny rather than scary. Review: encourages curiosity in your little explorer - We have ordered the majority of the Backyard books for our daughter who loves science. Good explanation, fair illustrations. Has been great for preschooler, early elementary age child regarding understanding material and encouraging interest in science. Our favorites are "Are you a Ladybug" and "Are you a Butterfly" but all books have been informative and fun to read! We have even learned quite a bit as parents and one of us actually has a science background.

Great for kids afraid of ants
This book was great for helping my toddler get over her fear of ants. She was terrified and we read this often so she understood they're not scary. I'm so happy I bought this for her. It made spring and summer so much less stressful!

My children really enjoyed this story!
I liked that this story is educational as well as entertaining. I read it to my 6 and 8 year old and they had questions for me after which is how I know they were listening and engaged. Art work is great too!

Accurate natural history with humor
Fun to read to a group because the pictures are large and clear, and the text grabs kids attention making them imagine themselves as ants.

very educational
This book is age appropriate. The kids loved it, specially the gross parts. As a teacher, I thought it was well written. It came super fast.

The text has a lovely conversational tone and the drawings are detailed and interesting. I learned so much - and I'm over 30! My 3 year old seemed to get a lot out of it too. Some of it way over his head of course, but it's the kind of book we can refer back to for years to come. I'm looking forward to summer when I can find the ants in the garden and then read the book with him again.
