Reached my goal in 2 months with this book!!!
At 180 pounds with my second son at 18 months old, I was desperate to do anything to lose the weight. I did every fad diet out there including HCG shots, pills and that wrap thing. I did lose some weight, but started gaining it back. I started working out more and joined a 6 week boot camp. Lost 4 pounds in 6 weeks and then gained it back in 3 weeks. UGH! Then a friend shared her weight loss program and with hesitation and doubts I started. With 20 pounds left to lose, I started on this program and within 2 months was able to reach my goal of 130lbs. The best part the book is I learned why I put it on and how to never do it again. There are many things that will take the weight off, but this book will help you keep it off. Fast forward on year. I am 136 with the addition of 6 pounds of muscle. I was a size 6 at 130 and am now a size 4 at 136. Love my new look!

Dr. A has lifestyle advice that's the real deal for improving how you feel and for how long...
This book is really the basis for the Optivia "diet" plan. However, it has valuable and viable instructions on how to develop healthy shopping, cooking, and eating habits that will not only increase your longevity, but will improve how you feel as you learn to jettison the unhealthy manufactured food that we are all hypnotized into consuming. It is NOT about rapid weight loss. It IS about steadily reaching your optimum BMI and weight and staying there without feeling you're on a diet.

Has some really good ideas, but way too pushy with the meal replacement things. Also, SUPER redundant. He could have shortened the book by half at least!

Excellent Book!
Great book with excellent information; one of the first books I've read that really addresses all aspects of health not just weight loss.. A couple of places he is a bit pushy on Medifast but he is also very upfront that he is Clinical Director for them. It's not a product focused book at all though. highly recommended for anyone who wants to get and stay healthy!

Focused on the whole person concept
Excellent book! Dr Anderson really makes you think about every aspect of your health. Since starting his program, I have lost 22 lbs in 6 weeks. My stress levels have been drastically reduced, cravings for sugar are gone, and my sleep habits have did a 180. I found that the questionnaire and the results to be truly shocking. that's the easy part. Keeping it off is the real challenge
People think loosening weight is so hard. Actually, that's the easy part. Keeping it off is the real challenge. I lost 60 lbs and kept it off 3 years so far. This book will tell you how to keep it off. Follow it like the food bible it is, change your lifestyle and eating habits and keep the weight off.

I love this book
I love this book! Not only is it very informative, Dr. Andersen has a realistic way for you to look at the way you are treating your body. I'm on a weight loss mission, but the book teaches you not to be on a "diet" but rather fuel your body to regain your optimum health. By regaining your health, you feel better, have more energy, and in the process of it all, you can reduce your over-weight co-morbidities - things such as hypertension, sleep apnea, type II diabetes, high cholesterol, joint pain, etc. I'm not on a diet - I'm learning how to eat properly and it's a reasonable, easy to maintain way of eating. I have been following his plan for 6 weeks and have lost 20 pounds! Granted, I am very overweight, so the first few pounds do come off quickly, but I am never hungry, I feel so much better, and I am encouraged when I see a weight loss EVERY WEEK. This book is amazing! I have been overweight for 30 some years now, and I am absolutely sure that I will be able to lose all the weight I want and get rid of all my other weight related problems in the process. If you want to feel better - buy this book!

Should be a mandatory read for everybody
The subject line says it all. This book contained a wealth of knowledge. Everybody (esp. in the USA!!) should read this book. But the people who REALLY need to read it, will not! This book should be a required read starting in 7th or 8th grade, or maybe 9th. Early enough when youngsters can begin making some of their own decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. Even after all the health and nutrition books, articles, studies, etc. that I've read in my life, this easy-to-read and understand surpassed them all. Maybe because it was written by a doctor (not a "writer") that was speaking to everyday folks and not the medical community.My own copy of this book (and Companion Guide) came from a different source, my Take Shape For Life health coach. I bought 3 copies of each to give to 3 people who are near and dear to me, that I thought could benefit from reading these amazing books. Kudos Dr A and thank you, Shelley!
