Lonely Planet Epic Surf Breaks of the World: explore the planet's most thrilling waves

I am enjoying reading the articles about the selected surf spots, but...If you are looking for a guide book, you will be disappointed. It is more a collection of suf journalists anecdotes on a relatively small selection of the worlds most prestigious waves. It's a decent book to have around for when the missus is talking at you.The biggest let down about this book for me is the selection of photography. In the most part, the book could be published as a paperback without the imagery. I think most people (like me) would buy the book on the understanding that for it's price, size and design it would be a good 'coffe table book'. I think you are paying for the imagery as much as the journalism. Hence you would probably want and expect purpose taken shots of the surf at it's best, pulled back line up shots and maybe some of the surrounding coastline. Within this publication there are too many shots of close up surfing that are not discernibly of the featured wave or shots of the local village/colourful ice cream van etc. Feels like the pictures have been sourced from a Google image search to fit the article and be colourful. In which case (as stated), they could a saved on the printing costs and marketed it more cheaply as a paperback.The stormrider surf guide it aint. If you have £20 odd to spend on a book and you haven't got any or all of them... Get the storm rider guide to the world volumes 1,2,3 or any of the local ones - notably European islands or the continent. You won't regret it. Absolutely brilliant books. Not this one, this is an expensive mediocre book.
