Can you just hang from gutter? I don’t want to disturb my downspout. Would it be a nice addition to hang from gutter and have the rain flow through

Not knowing what your gutter looks like, it's difficult to answer. If you leave your downspout, how will water get to the chain? I do not have a downspout. Some people have them lead to a rain barrel, mine goes into a pot filled with rocks that then flows downhill.

Does any rain chain adapter fit with any rain chain?

It fit right into the spout opening fine.

What is the thickness of the rings and cup?

They are at our cabin in Idaho and I'm in Florida so I can't say exactly. I know they work perfectly and have survived a winter of ice and snow. I have 2 different rain chains at my home in Florida that are the same heft and about an inch in diameter of a different style (I think the cups in Idaho are more than an inch) and they also work perfectly.

Pretty good

It's pretty good, looks nice, but does splash a fair bit. Best installed far away from a wall or anythign else you don't want to get splashed. It's supplied from a small to medium size roof. I have another type of rainchain elsewhere and that one performs better, but this ones still performs better than others I've had.
