Grizzly Industrial H5608 - V-Block Pair w/Clamps 1-5/8"

For this low price, I was not expecting much. I needed them for a drill press. They actually are of good quality and I was impressed. Grizzly is full of good quality stuff at a low price. I have been pleased with my purchases.

My application is a lot different than most people's. I'm using these in a laser lab to hold laser rods for testing. They'll do just fine for this. I noticed a lot of people have complained about the poor quality of the clamps that are included. I think they beefed them up in the interim, because the set I received appear to be quite heavy and stout. They're made from cast iron/steel with a 3/8(?) 8mm(?) SHCS for the bolt. Everything is heavily coated in cosmoline or similar material for rust prevention. I'm not too concerned about parallelism or flatness but they appear adequate. Considering a similar sized set from McMaster-Carr would run $300 and up, I'll take these!

Small but usefull

These arrived in excellent condition and are the perfect size for my mini mill (7" x 27" table/ 4" vise). All surfaces are nicely ground and there are no rough or sharp edges. They are well matched as a pair.

Blocks are getting rust right out of the box. Have dings on it.

Works well for the use, I've always had good luck with Grizzly products including larger metal working and wood working equipment.

I was somewhat concerned when purchasing these as some of the other reviewers have complained that they are not match ground. For all intents and purposes mine are perfect. I inspected them on the surface plate and they are as precisely matched to each other as I can possibly measure. Haven't tested the clamps yet but they seem to be made better than some of the cast clamps you see in the v-blocks in this price range.

The clamp was poorly made. Both unit had the same issue . The V-block seem to be OK.
