Evoluent – Inventor of The Vertical Mouse – VMDLW Ergonomic Vertical Mouse Right Hand Large USB Wireless, Sculpted for Comfort, Reduces Wrist Strain, 4 Speeds, 6 Customizable Buttons in Windows

For years, I used a wired mouse with weights I could add or remove to adjust feel. It was fine but too heavy and inaccurate. I then moved to a Logitech MX Master 2 wireless, which was outstanding in every way...except ergonomically it was horrible. The muscles on the outside of my elbow began hurting. I knew I needed a new mouse. I initially settled on the Logitech MX vertical. However, after more research, I found the angle of the Logitech when holding it to be 57 degrees, not 90. The key to reducing pain was to keep your hand, while using the mouse, in a natural handshake position with your thumb on top and pinky finger on bottom. The only mouse that does this was the Evoluent brand. They have several models, but their most popular appears to be the the VM4. Their newest model, the one I'm reviewing, is the VMD. They also have a "C" version. All models come in small, medium and large. Medium hands are considered to have less than 7.8 inches from tip of middle finger to the crease in your wrist. On their website. they have a template you can print to size up your hand. My hand measured 7.75 inches. I started with the VM4R medium size wired model and used this for several days. The pain was immediately reduced and almost eliminated entirely. This mouse does work for those in pain. I also ordered their newest variant in large size - the VMDLW model. This model was wireless. I ordered large because at 7.75, I was borderline between the M and L and wanted to compare it to the medium VM4. Vertical mice take some time in which to acclimate yourself. You will be frustrated at first, but quickly get used to how it feels. Precision is the hardest thing to master, but it does come. The Evoluent software can customize each button on the mouse, but I kept mine simple. The difference between the 4 and the D was: the D had a higher quality build; wireless was less clutter and allowed for better precision movement of the mouse; the tips of the buttons have carve-outs that help keep your fingers in place; and the scroll wheel was smoother. I am glad I went with the D version and the large size. This helps me hold the mouse better. Overall, Evoluent has a really good, quality ergonomic mouse that worked for me. Update: Comments about the "glossy" finish in some reviews I have read. True, this mouse is not rubberized. However, I have no issue maintaining control and my hand does not get sweaty at all. Maybe if you sweat heavily, the gloss feel may not appeal. UPDATE - Oct 17, 2020 Still give this mouse a 5-star. Love it. NO WRIST PAIN. Glossy surface not an issue at all. Still on original battery and I use it 50 hours per week.

This is my second Evoluent vertical mouse and I love this one even more. Its al little larger than the original I have but fits my large hands much better. I can work for hours with this mouse without any pain. These are built REALLY well. I've had my smaller one since 2012 and it still works perfectly. Battery life is decent, I'll need a new battery about once a month with daily use. I only notice a lag if the usb blu tooth receiver is too far or blocked by something. If you aren't used to a vertical mouse it can feel weird at first but once you get the hang of it you'll most likely love it.

Very nice, and very comfortable mouse, but it's too slick. The surface of the mouse is a polished-finish plastic, and the mouse slides out of my hand when working with it. The geometry of the mouse doesn't allow for it to be gripped without it sliding out of your hand. So every time I repositioned it on the mouse pad, it would start to slip from my hand. I ended up putting friction tape over the locations where my finger rest, and I'm now able to hold it. The software from Evoluent is also great, and allows almost everything on the mouse to be customized. They were also very thoughtful to include a USB extension cable, to bring the receiver closer to your the work surface. Very nice. And it comes in multiple sizes, so the large is almost big enough to fit my hand. Change the geometry of the thumb groove and make it with a non-slip surface, please. Then it would be perfect. But it's still the best vertical mouse available, and it's somehow cheaper than the Logitech.

While I really like the ergonomic design of this mouse (5 out 5 stars) and it solves my carpal tunnel syndrome, it does have some fatal flaws. I'm now on my 3rd or 4th mouse in the last 7-8 years and because of frustration I'm giving this a 1 star review. It seems that the company has stopped innovating and I'm looking for another ergonomic mouse manufacturer. I really hate to do this as I'm now very comfortable and used to the ergonomic shape of this mouse but its not a cheap mouse and I cannot keep replacing this every year or so. FATAL FLAW: My main issue with this mouse is the left click seems to get stuck and stops working intermittently (in which case I tend to start using the middle click as my left click). Infact this has happened with all my evoluent verticalmouse over time. And I have trained myself to use the middle click as left click. Eventually even the middle click will either start to double click randomly or simply stop working making the mouse virtually useless. Other flaws but not deal breakers: The mouse precision is not great. You will find it hard to use it for precision drawing or gaming. The mouse sensitivity is also not very finely tunable. The software that comes with it doesn't allow for fine adjustments. Using the native windows mouse control panel doesnt help much. The mouse tends to use up the battery really fast, they generally only last 3 months. The usb receiver signal with the mouse is easily interfered. An issue I have never had with another other mice before. To make it work, I have to put it at the front usb port on my desktop. If I put another flash drive or anything else in the adjacent port, the signal to the mouse gets disrupted and the mouse can no longer be used properly. This is baffling since no such thing happens to any of my logitech or microsoft mouse.

Fantastic mouse. Had for roughly five years, 11/10. I've used many mice. I prefer this to Logitech by a long shot.

The shape is divine - I have owned 7 other brands and none come anywhere near. I owned 3 Evoluent wired verical mice, all ergonomic bliss, relatively sturdy (1 over 10 years old of active use and still going, which speaks for itself). This wireless version? Awefull, slow, outdated sensor. Which ruins the amazing design that is worth the price given how many times it saved me from pain. $5-worth mouse sensor on $100 ergonomic, time-tested shape out of space, with the whole range of problems characteristic of cheap mice from early 2010s. On top of that, the god-aweful range of connectivity with the transmitter, which is so blatantly bad the manufacturer knows to include an extension USB-A cord for the small transmitter plug - believe me, you WILL compromise the sleek look of the mouse with a worm-like black extension cord to place the receiver within NOT less than 20 inches/50 cm away from the mouse, direct line of sight, and don't you dare place a pencil holder in between these two or the connection starts lagging. Not a single case of mine, multiple complaints online about connectivity issues. Another serious engineering problem - all Evoluent mice are extremely difficult to open to open to clean. Knowing how durable they are, you know you will have to do that, and internal hooks and clips break easily. Finally, if you use it for years, you WILL RUB off the silver reflective coat of paint on all of them with your hands. The thumb-facing reflective surface turns into transparent ugly patchy aquarium of a window to the innards of the mouse, which would have been cool to start with instead of this paint. The paint they use + the absence of any texture whatsoever makes for a slippery mouse in sweaty hands. I am still a die-hard fan of Evoluent, but honestly, can't recommend this mouse. Use wired older variants.

Love this mouse 🐭!

I have arthritis in my wrists that has been getting worse, and a coworker highly recommend this brand. I tried his VM4 for a day at work and found it more comfortable but wanted a wireless version. I initially bought the Medium size but found it a bit small, and since these are so expensive I figured I shouldn't settle and ordered the Large. For me it made a huge difference in overall comfort, and I'm glad I did. For such an expensive mouse, you would expect a better sensor (a mousepad is pretty much required) and more of a rubberized grip. The shiny plastic on this mouse isn't great if you get sweaty, and is really my biggest complaint. If you need one of these, the price is probably not a factor. It does it's job at reducing (but not completely removing) wrist strain. It has taken a few weeks to get used to the mouse and get almost the same accuracy as I had with a traditional design. You will be frustrated at first, but it does become better with time.

Nel mouse é impossibile impostare i dpi, il sensore é vecchio e poco preciso nelle accelerazioni, il materiale così lucido non é dei migliori. Sulla comodità é ottimo, anche il terzo tasto una volta presa l'abitudine si rileva molto utile.

Es ist schon ein fürstlicher Preis, die 100€. Aber ich finde sie sind es wert. Auf jeden Fall. Ich han auf Arbeit ne normale Maus und hab langsam aber sicher Unterarmschmerzen bekommen, die sich dann auf meine Freizeit auswirkten. Hatte mir dann die Maus bestellt, weil ich die Faxen dicke hatte. Und siehe da, die Schmerzen, waren nach ca. 1,5 Wochen merklich weniger. Top. An die diese ungewohnte Haltung musste ich aber lange gewöhnen. Jetzt geht's. Bei täglichen Einsatz macht sich die Maus bezahlt. Und...ich finde ja die separat ausgeführte mittlere Maustaste voll gut. Beim PDF hin- und herscrollen ist die echt praktisch. Ich sage mal....Kaufempfehlung, wer seinen Unterarm schonen will und noch lange Freude haben will an seinem Mausarm. Update 24.09.2022: Nach nun 2,5 Monaten im Einsatz kann ich nichts schlechtes sagen. Die Maus reagiert immer noch gut und präzise auf meine Bewegungen. Meine Unterarmschmerzen sind weg. Die Batterien halten immer noch und ich habe jetzt 2 von 3 Balken in der Ladeanzeige. Also ist sie auch kein all zu großer Stromfresser. Ich bin immer noch zufrieden mit der Maus.

Efficace pour soulager mes douleurs. quelques heures pour une prise en main correcte. Curseur à régler car à l'arrivée il était trop rapide et fluide...ça partait dans tous les sens. Après quelques jours d'utilisation, souris vraiment au top ! j'ai quelques douleurs au niveau de l'épaule qui persistent mais je pense qu'il faut vraiment un moment avant qu'elles s'estompent toutes. on ne peut pas régler des années de souffrances en 1 semaine. Bref je recommande vraiment ce produit. Les finitions sont superbes. Nous avons 1 blanche comptable avec Mac et l'autre, la mienne avec connectique USB grise anthracite brillante Elles sont vraiment confortable d'utilisation. le petit report pour éviter le frottement de l'auriculaire sur le bureau est vraiment agréable. Juste dommage qu'il faille dépenser plus de 100€ pour bénéficier de l'ergonomie. Ca devrait être obligatoire ce genre de souris. et on devrait arrêter de vendre des souris plates ou avec des ergonomies douteuses. Je recommanderai lorsque le besoin de remplacer se fera sentir ..si cela est nécessaire de remplacer bien sur !

My pain went away after the other vertical mouse (different brand) made my pain from the mouse worse rather than better due to the position of the mouse wheel and my long fingers. The fact this comes in three sizes meant I could measure my hand and pick the right one. Excellent.
