Excellent quality - sharp out of the box, minimal back flattening needed, it’s a good size and I appreciate that it’s the normal Japanese style “set your own hoop”. Great value overall, easy to sharpen and holds an edge well. I’ve been using them for quite some time and I’m very happy with their edge retention

I was so excited to get these chisels. I finally wanted to upgrade from my old, beat-up big box store chisels. I set the hoops, hones the blades and felt totally justified in my decision to upgrade. These chisels were razor-sharp and handled beautifully when I tested them on scrap wood About a week later, I got around to starting on the project I had been so eager to begin. I was cleaning up some dovetails when I noticed the corner of the smallest chisel had broken off. I hadn’t even been using a mallet with it—it was sharp enough that I didn’t need to. Obviously, there was a flaw in the metal. Now, it’s completely useless. SO DISAPPOINTING!!! This chisel had been treated gently and placed on a cork mat when I switched to other tools. If you want chisels you can actually use, don’t buy these.

I’m new to working with Japanese wood chisels but have been impressed with this set. Just remember they need to be sharpened differently than most bench chisels. Two of the three chisels were sharpened perfectly while the third needed some extra care. Very sharp.

Finally a nice set. I have a beater set and now these. They are perfect for detailing and finishing. Comes with caps to protect the edges. Really nice set. Would buy again.

At first use, I was happy with the build quality and the original sharpness. This was until I tried using them on harder woods, specifically white oak. I was cleaning up a few mortise holes and almost immediately noticed a chip in the corner of the chisel. So, I re-sharpened at the suggested 30* grind, matching the factory grind. Almost immediately after returning to cleaning/prepping a few mortise/tenons I noticed another chipped corner, this time on the other side. So if you are buying these for working with hard woods, look elsewhere.

I've bought this from a seller called Japane Luxury or Japanese Luxury, they provide the best customer service I've ever seen. As for the chisels, they are the best in this category. Japanese well made and holding them and using them is a joy in itself. Arigatou
