Solid value! Grade A!
Whenever possible I try to buy USA made knives but this knife is a gift for a friend and I can't help myself when it comes to the Derlin handled Old Timers. Back in 1975 I bought my first fixed blade knife, an Old Timer Sharp Finger. Since then I have gradually accumulated all of the Derlin handled Old Timers. I use them as gifts frequently too because they are reliably well made and well liked. They have been made in China for over 20 years now but the quality of manufacturing seems to have stayed the same as that original Sharp Finger, which I still have. Since this knife is a gift I didn't test it but I have maintained journals on every knife I have tested with my testing equipment for 50 years. I bought my personal Woodsman only a few years ago and just tested another Old Timer I bought for myself a few weeks ago so I'm confident the results for this knife would be identical to those for mine. So here are those results for my Woodsman: Fit and finish is perfect. Blade steel used is 7Cr17MoV a Chinese made stainless. Hardness tested at 56 HRC. No chipping on edge rolling during edge retention testing, metal piercing caused no major damage to the point. Testing resulted in dulling which was easily sharpened out. The Chinese stainless steel 7Cr17MoV has been touted as an equivalent to American 440C. IT'S NOT. It's actually pretty much identical to the lower carbon 440A in composition. But just FYI the famous American knife company Cutco uses 440A stainless in their hunting knife with a similar blade to this Woodsman. I looked this morning and on Cutco's website that knife is $137. In all honesty, USA made or not, I used to have that Cutco, and I'd rather have the Woodsman. 7Cr17MoV won't win any prizes for edge retention but it's very easy to sharpen to a razor edge. I've always liked the Old Timer Derlin "saw cut" handles. The subtile grooves and squared shape provide a nice secure grip and the brass rivits and name badge just look right. For the price Old Timer Knives can be had for on Amazon they offer a tremendous bang for the buck. Grumpy old guy seal of approval!

Surprisingly Pleased!!
Am surprised how much I like this knife. Very solid blade and handle, even the sheath is nice. Had good edge, but touched it up. Know it is inexpensive steel, but for $30 - very pleased!!

A good hunting knife to add to the collection
My main reason for buying this knife is I wanted a hunting knife with a "belly" that didn't break the bank. This knife has a long-curved clip point that is great for skinning and field dressing. I like the quality of the leather sheath. Decently thick with good stitching. Its not super steel and will need sharpened eventually. That being said I prefer to keep them in tip top shape, so most people might have left it. I honestly prefer my knives to be easy to sharpen vs the new metals that take forever. I like the old school design with the brass and wood handle. All and all, it's a good hunting knife.

Good knife for the price,
I got this knife knowing the brand. I got what I paid for, this is a good working knife. Its heavy it will do well during camping and such. The blade has a great size not to big not to small, it is full tang, the metal shows as 7Cr17 High Carbon Stainless Steel. It might be something similar to 420HC or the steel some Boker plus knives use. It is not the cheap 400 series steel its just a notch better, it is high in carbon it will retain its edge better but you would need to keep it clean. The derlin handles look very sturdy, the sheath its ok nothing fancy or nice to look at but will serve its purpose. This knife its very similar to the mountain lion as I ordered both. They are almost the same size blade but the style its a little different. The sheath its exactly the same size. Steel its the same, the Lion has nicer lines but the woodsman looks thicker and that will do better with heavier chores. Its not sharp enough out of the box, it did not pass the arm hair shaving test and the paper test barely passed it (you will need to sharpen the blade). I will use a 25 angle on mine. Overall its a good purchase. In my case its more of a sentimental attachment to the brand more than anything.

Beautiful piece for the price.
Better than expected. The pictures don't do this knife justice, it is a very well made piece that will last a lifetime. The feel in hand is excellent and the shape and size of the blade makes it a great all around knife. The sheath looks to be made of real leather and is super sturdy an thick, it takes a while to break it in but the knife fits nice and snug. The quality for the price makes this a no brainer and anyone would be happy with it.

Old Timer
Great looking knife, just sad they’re made in China like most everything else. Old Timers used to be an American icon of a knife. Other than that good quality.

Well built
I was very surprised when i first handled this knife due to the fact its made overseas. At first glance i was very impressed at how well it mimics the older US models and the general weight of it made me think that other than who is making it and where...it is the same materials used to make. This knife is full tang and the delrin handles are perfectly seated on the rear tang.the brass finger guard seems of high quality and is secured on with no movement at all.The blade was sharp but i managed to get it significantly sharper with a fine stone and my paper test proved that. All in all for for 18 dollars and some change this has to be the best knife in that range...and then some.I compared i to my Buck 119 and honestly it seems of same quality! This would make a good all around hunting knife and skinning knife. This will be going in my emergency BOB in my truck, due to it cheap price it wouldnt hurt too bad if it gets stolen. But its build and quality it makes it good enough for a short survival situation

brass pins are the same as brassfinger guard
Knife feels solid, no scratches on blade. leather sheath is tight and thick loosens to a perfect fit after a few uses. wiggle in slowly the first couple of times with some oil. I collect knives and this one is well made. Buy one and you wont be sending it back. Highly recomend !

Un gran cuchillo
Excelente cuchillo, artesanal, la funda es de cuero algo rígido al inicio para guardar el cuchillo pero con el tiempo se va adaptando.

Excellent quality
This knife came razor sharp, has a great weight and feel in the hand, and is clearly meant to be used. It is a heavy knife and durable, I carried this as my main belt knife this deer season and it did everything I needed it to without worry. Fit and finish is perfect and I expect this will be one of my go to knives for many years to come. Only place they skimped on the quality is with the leather sheath. It is very basic, cheap leather, but it does the job.

165OT EXCELENTE OPCION
UN CUCHILLO QUE CUMPLE CON TODOS SUS OBJETIVOS DE TRABAJO Y EN RELACION AL PRECIO, ES EXCEPCIONAL. VIENE EN ACERO INOXIDABLE 7CR17 DE MUY BUENA CALIDAD, FULLTANG Y CON CACHAS DE MICARTA, ES UN CUCHILLO QUE TE DURARA POR MUCHOS AÑOS AUN DANDOLE TRABAJO PESADO, DE UN TAMAÑO IDEAL PARA CUMPLIR MULTIPLES TAREAS. LO RECOMIENDO AMPLIAMENTE. VIENE AFILADO DECENTEMENTE PERO SI LE FALTA UN POCO, EL AGARRE EXCELENTE Y SE SIENTE UNA HOJA MUY FUERTE. RECOMENDABLE 100% DEACUERDO A SU PRECIO. SOLO LE QUITO UNA ESTRELLA PORQUE LA FUNDA QUE VIENE EN PIEL LE QUEDA UN POCO CHICA Y CUESTA TRABAJO METERLO COMPLETAMENTE YA QUE DE OTRA FORMA EL SUJETADOR CON EL BROCHE NO ALCANZA PARA ASEGURARLO. PERO AUN ASI LO VOLVERÍA A COMPRAR SIN DUDARLO

This is a good buy....
This knife seems as well made as the original I had so long ago.The grind is even and the handle scales are well fitted. The cross guard seems thicker than it needs to be but does not affect the over all balance. The sheath quality is open to question but again...looks like the ones of long ago.For the dollar, this is a good knife.
