R1700BT Active Bookshelf Speakers Near-field Studio Monitors Powered 2.0 Speaker Setup Wooden Enclosure 66w RMS- White

Firstly the speakers look really cool... probably not the most important attribute when buying speakers, but hey, we all like good looking things don't we. I wanted a good quality set of speakers for my new WFH (Working From Home) setup and even though I've always had much cheaper PC speakers in the past, which have worked faultlessly and sounded perfectly acceptable, I wanted to go a 'step up' with my new desk. If I'm going to be using something for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, then good quality becomes a little more warranted. All the Edifier speakers have pretty good reviews and even though I was prepared to spend a little bit more I liked the look and size of these, so got them. They feel robust, well engineered and well built, with all the tactile and visual impressions of a quality product. £139 is probably a little much for PC speakers, but strictly speaking they are listed as bookshelf speakers not PC speakers. However, a little purpose re-appropriation is needed during these changing times were living in. The sound is clear, crisp, and clean even at loud volumes, and they can go very loud indeed; way louder than I though or would ever really have use for in this setting. They would do well in a small house gathering where reasonable volumes of music are required in a large living room. The functions and controls are basic, concise and intuitive, so aside from a perhaps little reading for Bluetooth pairing, you'll probably never need to consult the manual. I didn't even know they had Bluetooth when I ordered them, so this is a nice bonus. I wanted speakers that could handle input from both my desktop, and work laptop easily, and the two phono inputs make this a breeze. The six button remote is functional and easy to navigate, though the dead on arrival battery had me initially feeling the product was faulty, a quick battery change averted my initial disappointment and I was back in business. The frequency spectrum is pretty well reproduced throughout the high and mid frequencies and the sound clarity is quite striking. The bass is deep, solid and punchy without being booming or overbearing in the higher bass frequencies as is common with speakers this size. Even though I have heard more impressive bass from speakers similarly sized, I have to take into account the price point, which makes these very impressive indeed. I didn't actually test the Bluetooth connection seeing as I've not really got much need for it (yet), so can't comment on it's performance, but connecting is relatively straight forward. Anyway, I'm very pleased with them and think they make a great addition to my setup. The one aspect I found oddly niggling is the fact the the top surface is not flat/horizontal, so I can't actually put anything on top of them, but again, these are really for a bookshelf so I have to let this irk slide on account that they were not meant to be Desk pedestal's. Highly recommended.

I bought these to replace a pair of monitors from a well known American studio equipment and DAW corporate; those died after 4 years – through a design / component quality fault that’s now well recorded. I was happy with the sound of them. I’m going to compare the two, because both are active two-speaker-cabinets. The Edifiers are relatively heavy and the cabinets look good. The knobs feel well finished and well damped and there’s a detent you can feel for the 0db position of the separate bass and tweeter level controls – someone’s thought about their customers in this. In comparison, the speaker from the USA had one time treble/bass adjustment (on the back), and were a dull blue-grey plastic with no grills and cheap switches, but they had TRS inputs and a headphone port (I never used the latter), which the edifiers don’t. CABLES & PACKAGING The box contained two pairs of audio cables, and a plugged cable to connect the passive speaker to the amped one. This is quite heavy duty and I suspect it’s shielded. No nasty strand of cheap speaker wire here. I had no interference to contend with on these. The speaker wire that came with my previous speakers, needed routing to avoid audio cables. Only one issue here. Why is this manufacturer using planet-unfriendly polystyrene packaging when cardboard would be fine? SETUP Setup of both the speakers and Bluetooth connection was straightforward. I’m a bit concerned that there doesn’t seem to be a Bluetooth password – meaning anyone within 30 metres might connect to it. THE REMOTE Given the perceived quality of the cables supplied, and the finish of the speakers, the perceived quality of the piano black remote is well below the rest of the package. It’s incredibly lightweight (but doesn’t feel fragile). There are lots of positives though. It’s easy to use, functions well, and the 6 buttons are well thought out - and all I’ll need. And, it didn’t need the manual to understand. But no one picking it up is going to think it belongs to these classy looking speakers. The (well written and clear) manual shows you how to change the remote’s battery. Another piece of attention to customer needs by this manufacturer. BLUETOOTH QUALITY The Bluetooth codec supported by this active speaker system is SBC. That delivers lower audio quality than LDAC – which supports a higher bit rate. Fine for background sound, parties or TV, not the best quality for listening to music. It was a noticeably lower quality than from my plugged in PC. I can understand why – cheaper devices that connect to these Edifiers may not support the LDAC protocol. SOUND QUALITY & SOUND SETUP Sound quality is far better than I expected, by some margin. I suspect the tweeters are a tad overpowered compared to the bass, Turn them up and the top highs can get a little confused, whereas the American monitors (see above) had really dominant crisp, clear highs; too much at times ( and there was no on cabinet way of adjusting them). Leave the Edifier tweeters at 0db and you may be OK, I turned them down by 1db and they’re fine. The bass is a touch on the punchy side (on my PC in my space), but not overbearing. That suits a lot of music styles. The crossover is exceptionally well judged in its balance between highs and lows. In contrast, the bass on the American monitors wasn’t as powerful, but it delivered a warmer tone. The US speakers had a noticeable dip in upper mid-range. Edifier have done a far better job of delivering mid-range detail, it really impressed me. It’s difficult to deliver real lows from a 4” speaker. The American studio equipment and DAW corporate got down to 80 Hz on their 3.5” speaker. These Edifiers are delivering down to a respectable 60 Hz on 4”, and the difference is noticeable. Both speakers deliver 20kHz, with the American product having the edge at the very top end. If you want a sub-out, there isn’t one, but Edifier’s web site says you can split the line in signal to an amped sub unit. Or lay out more money and buy the RT1700 BTS – that comes with a sub out port. I’ve run about 40 pieces of music through these – in both listening and setup. That included a range of EDM, opera, large orchestral pieces, reggae, rock, blues, jazz and vocal based music. I’ve also listened to an audio book and watched a video. The performance has been far better than I expected. The stereo separation of the amp channels is very good and I’m getting more detail in the music than I expected. It’s not audiophile, but it’s good. I was wondering if I’d be able to mix music through these – the answer is yes I will. OVERALL Based on the price point Audio performance 4.75 Perceived build quality & appearance 5 Ease of use 5 Bluetooth 3 Remote 4 Value for money 5 CONCLUSION Superb value. Can anything beat these at their price point?

I bought these for £79.99 a little over a year ago back when very little was known about them, I decided to take a leap of faith as the reviews I could find were very good. The design is great and you have the option of keeping the grills on for a classy look or take them off to make them look a bit more modern or if you want to see the speaker go womp-womp-womp when playing bass at high volume. The speakers are slightly angled upwards meaning the best place would be on the desk I however have then about 20 cm above my head on a shelf and they sound fine. The only thing I dislike is the green coloured 3.5mm jack no idea why it is so inconsistent with the rest of the design. The speakers are very easy to use pretty much plug and play... after a buying an adopter for the UK plug, I did not buy these speakers for the Bluetooth but I found myself using it frequently with my ipad and android phone just because of how quick and easy it was to connect. You can easily adjust the treble, the bass and volume on the side of the right speaker. The remote is small stylish and easy to use although a bit easy to lose. However the main reason you buy as speaker is for the sound. I am no expert on audio so this is based on my perception. The speakers sound clear even on the highest volume which is loud enough to fill the flat I live in with music. Voices and sound effects come in clear when watching films and playing games. I can listen to them a whole day without getting tired and often do, in my opinion there is an emphasis on the bass which is surprisingly powerful for speakers this size almost enough to rival a small subwoofer because of this I have the bass knob turned about half way down which I think sounds more natural however I have turned the bass knob all they way up when listening to certain kind of music and for most volume the bass is tight and punchy while at the highest volume It doesn't sound distorted but definably a little more lose. I have asked a few friends of what they though of the sound and how much the speakers cost and no one guessed under £200 and I agree with them they sound and look like something that should be much more expensive. So the speakers sound great, look great, easy to use and are reliable as I have had no trouble after a year of use. One of the best purchases I have made. I saw that the price had went up to £125 I assume because the speakers became more well known, I still think that they are a great choice even at the new price. I can't believe how little I paid for them especially when I heard sound systems that were much more expensive that in my opinion sounded worse. I don't think you can really go wrong with these great choice for pretty much anyone.

Ok - the speakers are good to look at and reassuringly heavy, Who wants light speakers if you want a good sound. Connections all good and solid. Loads of bass. So far so good BUT the treble was very low SO... I turn up the treble control on the speaker - no change. I turn it upon to MAXIMUM and... NO DIFFERENCE. High end still dull especially on the open / closed hi hat sounds. Turn the treble to minimum and it makes no change in the sound. There must be a duff connection in there. I was in a quandary as I really didn't want to go to the hassle of repacking and sending back etc etc so thought about using an external graphic equaliser - Spotify doesn't have one ( I'm pretty sure ) and nor my MacBook Air ( again I don't think so ) So looked on the net and came across an app called eqMac. It's free. It's also excellent. It opens up each time I use Spotify and I have tweaked the mid range and most importantly the treble. The speakers now sound fabulous. I would obviously have preferred to have been able to get this sound from the start but eqMac was free and I'm happy with what I have now. They now sound 5 STAR. Without eqMac they would have been 2 STAR. I'm sure I was just unlucky, the speakers having one bad connection , as none of the other reviews I read mentioned the same problem. Third photo shows speakers being used with top knob ( treble ) dialled to 10/10. Bass is so good that I dial it down a little. With eqMac I am really loving these speakers. Listening to LemonJelly at the moment ( Only Time ) and the sound is v v good indeed. PS the Bluetooth works perfectly

These are excellent speakers with impressive volume, clarity and overall sound quality. They produce plenty of power for a desk or medium-sized room without becoming muddy or distorted, while voices, music and game audio all remain clear and well separated. The near-field design also works surprisingly well. This means the speakers are angled and tuned to direct the sound towards you when sitting relatively close, rather than needing to fill a large room before sounding balanced. On a desk, this creates a much more focused stereo image and makes it easier to hear individual details. The wooden enclosures look attractive, Bluetooth is convenient and the built-in controls make adjusting the bass and treble straightforward. Amazing active speakers that provide excellent sound without needing a separate amplifier.

Needed to replace my desktop computer's audio speakers - games, all kinds of music including bassy edm, do some editing etc. Had an ok Logitech 2.1 system, 2 speakers + a floor subwoofer unit which served me pretty well. Unfortunately the wires for that system were hardwired into the small speakers, which go to the floor sub unit, and these started having fading in/out problems. The mid/high ranges from the small Logi speakers were also not great as I have now come to realise. After a bit of research and back and forth decision making between the more/sometimes better reviewed Edifier R1280DBs's and MR4's, some of the other (at the time of writing) £99 models, it sounded like something was a bit missing from those units for people, and I figured these R1700BT might tick most boxes. These are chunkier than I thought even, but they still fit on my desk just about. I ideally wanted to not have to deal with a subwoofer unit on the floor, so I ordered these and hoped the bass in these would be enough for my use case. The trade-off in use of space I guess is no floor unit, bigger speakers themselves. I opened them up, hooked them to power and connected the two speakers together. Just power, and one more cable. Turned on, bluetooth is super snappy indeed, and got on to trying a bunch of tunes. At first I was a tiny bit disheartened, as some of the songs just didn't feel quite right. But I forgot I'm a bass-inclined individual, so played with the nice treble/bass controls, added +4db, and kicked the volume up. I'm quite happy. My ears retuned a bit and the music started showing some new colours, definition. The bass is also enough, for my needs. I was torn between spending a bit extra for the R1700BTS (S for Subwoofer Out version), so I had the futureproofing of being able to buy a sub to addon if I wanted to. Then I remembered I wanted to do away with the sub unit in the first place, and figured if these don't kick enough bass for my needs it's simply not the speakers for me. I think it would be unreasonable to expect anything more for the £115 I paid and in the form factor they come in. The build quality is great, controls are easy, Bluetooth snappy. No care for the remote control myself so can't comment. Audio is clean, sharp, great. Volume can't go house-party high, but fills my room and spills out a good amount. If I had these in my living room/some open plan social area, would maybe be enough. The only thing missing is the bass lows could be punchier. I do wish I got the BTS model in the end, but I'm sort of fighting my rationale for getting these in the first place then - would just be nice to have the option I think, so if you're crazy bassy I'd go for those, get a sub unit, and be plenty happy.

Great sound using RCA direct to record player. Also does a great job via Bluetooth to TV and phones, easy and eager to connect, no issues. They are compact but heavy, substantial speakers with great sound quality.

Very clear voice and great for guitar. Quite superb when used for my classical CDs . The only slight niggle I have with these is that the remote does not control bass or treble and the bass is very boomy. Bluetooth connection is easy. As fo the bass, just insert a little foam into the bass ports to fix it and make the bass output more natural. I tested this by playing long drum solos through them and adjusting the bass control to suit my room. Conclusion, these are great speakers for the price and perform way above any others in their price range. Over the last sixty years I have listened to the highest and lowest priced and these edifier speakers out perform many of the high end ones. This company know how to make very good speakers..

Ces edifier R1700BT sont de très bonne qualité, la finition est impeccable, elles sont un peu imposantes pour des enceintes de bureau, si vous avez un petit bureau mais si vous avez la place, le jeu en vaut la chandelle ! Le son est clair, puissant, les basses et aigus sont réglables depuis l'enceinte principale. Les basses sans rentrer dans de l'infra basses se font bien sentir, même bien mieux que sur mon home cinéma lg 2.1, ou elles manquent cruellement de relief et de profondeur en comparaison... Les câbles fournis de qualité standard, ni plus ni moins, toutefois la fonction Bluetooth donne un son irréprochable, nul besoin pour moi de câbles. A prendre en compte tout de même que on peut connecter un seul appareil à la fois en Bluetooth et qu'aucune confirmation via les enceintes n'est requises, pensez donc à l'éteindre après usage (au moins avec la télécommande) , afin d'éviter qu'un voisin s'y connecte La télécommande est basique mais fait son job. Seul reproche peut-être le câble d'alimentation un peu court mais bon... Bref, personnellement, ravi de mon achat, premier achat de cette marque, qui mérite à être connu, et qui n'a pas à rougir face à d'autre marque plus connues.

Gostei muito dessas caixas de som. São lindas e o som é de alta qualidade! Valeu a pena!

Habe das Produkt erst einmal im großen "Saal"/Einkaufszentrum Probe gehört und zumindest erfahren können, dass da nichts schnarrt/Knarzt oder verzerrt! Anschließend Rezensionen gelesen und gesehen, dass viel begeistert von den Boxen waren! Also einfach bestellt um diese an Musik, insb. Handy und Plattenspieler auszuprobieren! Schnelle Lieferung - dafür Daumen hoch! Erste negative Feststellung: Stromkabel, wie von vielen Anderen schon kritisiert, ist das Stromkabel immer noch an der aktiven Box fest verkabelt, was natürlich die Aufstellung schon einmal einschränkt; Zweite Einschränkung folgt sogleich: AKTIV recht, passiv links...... über Bluetooth ganz schön bescheiden, mit Cinch-Kabel kann man sich noch mit dem VERTAUSCHEN derselben Pole helfen, aber Bluetooth eben NIX!!! Nichtsdestotrotz aber die Frage, warum dann "five stars"...... Geniale und problemlose Bluetooth Verbindung, aber nicht nur das..... das wichtigste: der Klang (obwohl subjektiv!) : Erst einmal getestet inwieweit Boxen "rauschen" oder sonstwie bei Stille hörbar sind..... ich habe, glaube ich zumindest, ein recht gutes Gehör, aber hier war nur bei allem auf 100% zu hören, dass der Lautsprechen eingeschaltet war! Dann habe ich verschiedene Sachen versucht: 1. Antonin Dvorak - Symphony Nb°9 in E Dur - Begeisterung 2. Bedrich Smetana Ma Vlast: No.2, Die Moldau - GENIAL 3. Bolero - Maurice Ravel - Berliner Sinfonie Orchester - Eine Offenbarung ABER DANN 4. Bridge over troubled Water. - David Roach - wie aber auch "Killing me softly" und "Mandy" = Begeisterung danach bin ich mal durch 70er "You are the greatest lover"-LUV, Barry White - "Let the music play", aber auch 80ies wie Alpha Ville/Depeche Mode/MT und diverse.... nach Bonnie Bianco "No tears anymore" in großer Lautstärke auch "Carnival de Paris"- Dario G. und "Mr.Vain"-Culture Beat Peter Fox und natürlich ein paar Schlager und Ost-Rock..... Alles, aber auch alles hörte sich super an in einem etwa 20 Quadratmeter großen Raum! Hatte ich so nicht erwartet! Also die nächste Prüfung - Mini Beamer via Bluetooth - Verbindung..... problemlos. Kanäle durchgeschaltet! Alles super, denn selbst die "Verzögerung", die normalerweise in Sprache und Bild zu sehen ist, hält sich in Grenzen!! ICH BIN BEGEISTERT!!! Also trotz der "Nachteile" bezüglich der Kabelei eine absolute Empfehlung von mir, zumal auch die Verarbeitung sich als absolut preis-leistungsgerecht erwies. Was ich NICHT prüfen konnte, war das Verhalten der Boxen an meinem Plattenspieler, da ich diesen nicht im Hause hatte! Also trotz meiner Kritik auch meine absolute Kaufempfehlung, da für mich tatsächlich der Klang der ausschlaggebende (Entscheidung-)Punkt ist....... und wer, wie ich mit den Nachteilen leben kann, der ist mit diesem System sehr gut aufgestellt!!!
