As a vent cap, this is a very good product. It is not flimsy or poorly made, and the color matches the roof perfectly. Other products are metallic in color and stick out on the roof like a sore thumb. This vent is designed with rigid vent tubing in mind, as with a range vent. My application was for a bathroom vent. The old ventilator was much too noisy, so I decided to replace it. I found that the flexible vent, made of plastic, was pockmarked with tiny holes. I wanted to use flexible metal vent tubing that would last a while. There is no provision for a vent that is not self-supporting in this cap. It merely fits over the end of the projecting vent on the roof, and does not "capture" or support it. My solution was to rivet several angle brackets onto a 6" piece of 4" vent tubing and attach it to the underside of the roof. Then I fit and clamped the flexible tubing to the underroof end of this. So, the flexible tubing was supported and held in place, and the vent cap fit over the end of the upper end of the rigid tubing. Not a significant problem, but something you need to be aware of if you purchase this.

The roof cap came double boxed and arrived within the expected time frame. It was a low cost leader from the seller which drove part of my decision to purchase along with visiting the manufacture's site. It was simple to install and came with good simple directions whicha re also available on manufacturer's website. Came with a reducer coupler from 3" to 4" ducting. Most bath fans are 3" outlets and this cap has a 4" opening and the adapter allows for an easy connection - at least in my application. The backdraft damper is maybe the only possible questionable feature of this item that is 5 stars. It does not allow for a 100% seal the way it is designed because the flap has no offset to allow for the additional thickness of the closed foam seal used. I was able to make the addition of a flap to cover the small 1/4" area that the foam is unable to seal at near the hinge. It certainly is sufficiently sealed otherwise, I am just a little fussy about any air leaks in my house.

The fastener holes are too close to the vent neck, which will cause difficulty when hammering or screwing it into your roof. The base plate was slightly warped, so it needed ample sealant where it fays against the roof. I need it tighten the fasteners quite a bit to remove the bow. Otherwise, the coatings appear durable, and it has decent build quality and value above the equivalent product you'll find at Home Depot.

Before this I had the earlier normal 5x5 "turtle shell" for a vent through the roof. Even though this unit is bigger on the outside, the inside fit perfectly with the already installed bathroom vent plumbing.
