This is considered as a "Hose Thread". Hose thread is standard throughout the industry.It is specific to a garden hose only. It is 3/4GHT (garden hose thread) not 3/4 NPT (national Pipe Thread) . Hope it helps you.

does this include everything i need to connect my hose to the faucet?

No. To connect your hose to the faucet or hose bib you need what Gardena calls a "tap connector". The metal one costs $13.75, the plastic one costs $6.62. On the hose end you need a 39017 female garden hose connector at $11.15. They're all kind of pricey but, in my experience, they don't leak like most any other QD out there.

Is this connector suitable for potable water?

I would think so, as long as you are using a clean hose and have not used the connector with dirty or muddy water. This a great product!

Hose diameter does make a difference. I have some plastic Gardena ends from Europe, and my US garden hose is too wide and can't even be forced to fit.

Are you asking if there is something you can use to make them fit together? There are differences in measurements between the two countries. I would buy the US based Gardena product to use with your US hoses.
