Enough about Me: Find Lasting Joy in the Age of Self

Based on the Word, Jesus is the focus!! Not another Christian masked self-help book!
Ladies!! A friend invited me to a Zoom meetup book club for this book and I was all in just because I trust my friend and during this odd time of staying home mostly, getting to see friends Friday nights was awesome!! So this book!!! I am super selective about what I choose to spend my time reading. I'm looking for good writing and I don't want something with some self-help message and a few Scriptures thrown in. If it is going to be pointing me to The Word of God and Jesus at the center, I'm willing to give it a shot! We had a great time going through this book together. I like to try to read the questions first before I read the chapter, so I can be aware of what I might want to look for and remember things better. The discussion questions at the end of the chapter rocked! The very best part...the author, Jen Oshman herself joined our group for one of our Zooms!! She is super grounded and real. Also! She took the time to anwer our questions - which confession - I was the one who asked the most!! I love writing and talking to others who are writers, finding out when they began writing, how, if it was their first book, how they ended up getting published...also, her family is a missionary family, so we got to ask all about that and what it looks like where they live now. I thank The Lord for this opportunity and I very very very highly recommend this book to any lady who is looking for something to encourage them toward an eternal perspective in a super real way. Thanks Jen!!!

The opposite of self-help!
I love this book! The world shouts that we can do it, we have to believe in ourselves, work harder, do more... but this type of thinking leaves us disappointed and exhausted... because it is contrary to the gospel. This book is a refreshing opposite to self-help culture and reminds us that Jesus alone empowers us to do the work He has given us to do. He gives us rest when we stop trying to depend on ourselves! So glad I read it!!

Lightweight Christian Reading for Suburban Women
This is essentially a Christian book about finding peace in life by getting your focus off yourself. The author is female and her anecdotes seem to be written about and directed to suburban Christian women. It's quick reading and offers a few insights or perspectives that the reader might find new, but you'll find the same message in a million other places. If you like inspirational books by Christian women, you'd probably enjoy it. If you want something deeper and more challenging (and applicable to both men and women), I would keep looking.

The antidote to our self-sickness
Finally! A new Christian book for women that doesn't dangle promises to help you understand your gifts, realize your full potential, and become a better you. I've grown discouraged over the years seeing how many Christian books being marketed to women spout self-help babble with a little bit of Jesus thrown in for good measure. Jen Oshman offers a refreshing alternative."Enough about Me" explains how women who are Gen X and younger have been fed a steady diet of self. We’re told “You’re enough. You got this. You can hustle your way to happiness.” But clearly, we’ve been duped. We can’t do everything. We’re tired, depressed, and restless. And yet we still look for solutions from within.Jen reminds us that real joy comes from Jesus alone. Only he can save us from the cycle of striving for self-worth. That doesn’t mean we get to treat him like some tool to attain our personal fulfillment. No, we have to follow him and die to our selfish desires. “It is there – in the cross-bearing – that you and I experience the great paradox of genuine faith. In God’s economy, dying to oneself leads to lasting joy.”This book is a must-read for women today. It gives us solid, biblical wisdom to help cure our self-sickness, acknowledging that apart from God, we can do nothing. As we hand our lives over to Christ, we gain all the fulfillment we need in loving and being loved by him.

I can't more highly recommend this book!
Much of the church has been lured by the siren call of self which permeates our western culture today and the author rings the bell loudly to wake us up as to why these sirens are and will continue to leave us shipwrecked. It is a lie that we will ever be happy and fulfilled outside of Christ. He made us and we are made for Him and we will only ever be happy and fulfilled when our identities are rooted in Him and what He accomplished on our behalf at the cross. She brings to light all of the destructive lies that will eventually damn us if they are followed like that we can be "good" enough, that we can "do what makes us happy" and actually be happy, that we can care for ourselves enough where we are content. Instead, she points us back to the gospel which bids us to come and die so that we may truly live. She so beautifully reminds us that He is enough, so enough about us. I can't more highly recommend this book.

We Can't Help Ourselves
The self-help mottos of the world do not work and, unfortunately, they have crept into the church, especially through women's studies.Jen Oshman has given the church a valuable resource to get back to the Gospel and no longer live according to the world's wisdom.Although written specifically with women in mind, this book will benefit and encourage every Christian needing to reorient themselves back to Christ or who just need that constant reminder.

We are ready to quit the me-centered gospel!
If you are left feeling exhausted by the “you’ve got this ” mentality and are left feeling empty (and definitely not happy) with the “Do what makes you happy” world view... this book will hit you deep in your soul. Jen uses her words to powerfully illustrate that the only thing that will bring you true joy is true surrender to Jesus.

Fantastic!!
Get it, read it, share with every friend you can!! This is a message we need to hear again and again. We never graduate from the Gospel truths that she fills this book with. Can’t recommend it enough.

Live for Jesus!
Great beginning. Theologically rich middle. Christ-exalting end. Live for yourself and your joy will be weak. Live for Jesus and your joy will abound.
