Is There Really a Human Race?

This book reminds us all - and opens a very important dialogue with our children - that kind matters, "different" is good, and in a crazy-paced world, each of us has the time to slow down and acknowledge each other's importance. In addition to that, the story is fun, funny, and poignant. The illustrations are lively, colorful, quirky, and have a mystery about them that tells a story all their own. This book appeals on a plethora of levels. It's simply fun and entertaining for the pre-reading child. It's fun, entertaining, and thought-provoking, for early stage readers. And for the child who's reading skills surpass a "children's book" it can provide hours of mental-visual stimulation and discovery through it's artwork, alone. And still, it engages an adult reader-storyteller on all of those levels and more, from the light-hearted to the thought-provoking. I've not been so excited about a children's book (because it's not just...) in well over a decade or two and I'm so looking forward to giving this book to my almost four year-old granddaughter for Christmas this year. Miss Curtis and Miss Cornell, while very multi-industry accomplished on their own, have found a collaboration tour de force with each other, and I'm SO very excited to explore all of the other titles they've created. A great big THANK YOU to them, both. I'll finish where I started... This book is a must have in your children's book collection.

I got a copy of this book out of a "free" box on a curb. One of the greatest books I've ever stumbled across unintentionally. This is my favorite book to give as a baby shower gift. Great story about things our kids need to know from a young age about their place in this world and the things they can/should do to make it better. Love it

My daughter loved this book at age five, and now Im purchasing it for a friend’s daughter. The illustrations are fantastic and whimsical, the text is delightful, and the message is great.

The book arrived in great condition (as described). Purchased as a gift. I thought the illustrations were great and very colorful. This book is adorable and perfect for those little ones asking questions about life. It has a really good message about helping others, which I think is very important to remember, as adults we get lost in the shuffle and forget about those "little things" like helping one another. I would recommend.

Human Raceというのを「人間同士の競争」という意味に受け取った幼い男の子が、「こういうことかな」「ああいうことかな」と空想（妄想）した世界を描いた絵本。読んでいるうちに，けっこう哲学的な内容になっていく。７歳の娘にはちょっと難しいだろうなぁ……と思いながら読み出したら、カラフルな絵柄に惹かれたのか覗きにやってきて、結局、しっかり読み聞かせをさせられた。しかも終わったとたんに，娘が「ものすごくおもしろい！」と興奮気味に叫んだのには驚かされた。（もちろん、７歳の娘が内容をちゃんと理解したとは思わない……実際、絵だけでも魅力的な本なのだ。）この本、どこかで見たような気がしていたら、某社の絵本カタログにも載っていた。アメリカではナンバーワン・ベストセラーになった一冊らしい。著者はホラー映画の女優さんだそうだが、絵本の内容はホラーとはほど遠い。この文・絵コンビで何冊もヒット作を出している。個人的には，2007年に知った英語絵本ベスト３のひとつ。大人でも楽しめます。
