Not what you expect from EK
I bought this Pump Res Combo almost a year ago to the day, I've been water cooling my Gaming PC's for around 20 years and currently have an EK intel velocity CPU block and EK full RTX2080ti block. and this quantum kinetic pump combo. I have had several types of pumps Laing, Swift tech, Alphacool over a long water cooling history, one I still had as a back up and yesterday did i need it! yes Laing make the majority of pumps now days but wasnt always the case. A 17 year old Swift tech DDC is whats currently propping up my system after a total failure of EK's D5 pwm pump banging and clanging stuck!!! caused a total system cooling failure and shutdown, then onto a total system tear down!!!! 6 months after a Hardline pipe install that's all had to be chopped up to get the pc running again with a separate pump & res in a temporary loop!! once out and inspected, no debris, no residue no nothing in the impeller assembly, just a failed pump! ( my preferred cooling method lab grade distilled water) there's no gunk! nothing to blame! I'm very disappointed EK and left with limbo rig having to wait on RMA, rebuild and re pipe! looking for a suitable quality replacement Corsair stuff has to much plastic!! AquaComputer stuff looks to be the way forward ! Edit: I don't think ill ever buy EK pumps and Res again, I decided on an AquaComputer Ultitube 200 pro Next and what can i say wow its been in a couple weeks, the aqua suite software with it is superb, EK I think you've some serious catching up to do and it was only about £30 odd more than your top offerings!

This is a very strong pump and its beautiful. I designed a custom loop that goes through two 44mm width 420mm Alphacool Nexxos V.2 radiators, a Quantum Momentum^2 Z690 Hero mono-block, and a EK-Quantum Vector FTW3 RTX 3080/3090 D-RGB - Nickel + Plexi GPU block. Though the loop order is scientifically insignificant, I wanted the coolant to hit the CPU first, then be cooled, then hit the GPU, then be cooled on its way back to the pump. This required slightly longer runs than the boring, go straight from the pump to the GPU block, to the monoblock, to the rads. From my years of past experience as a wildland firefighter and a plumber in my younger days, I like the plumbing aspect. However, I knew that the longer the runs, and the more fittings used, the more drag the plumbing would have and therefore the more pressure would be needed, not to mention the coolant had to make it through two big radiators. I did not want to sacrifice volume for pressure by going to a DDC, so I needed a pump with both good head pressure and volume ratings. The D5 was the obvious choice. Though my case and fans (that I love) and RGB controllers were all Corsair, the XD5 just did not match up statistically though it would have showed up in iCUE and I do like the square design, and it was $30 cheaper. Upon installation there was a major issue that you can see in the video. My pump seemed super weak, and I hesitantly theorized a vapor lock issue over a weak pump. But after tipping the system several times, no air was bubbling out. Something was wrong. First I tried disconnecting a tube and siphoning some coolant through most of the system to see if I could break the vapor lock but only ended up with a bad taste of coolant (a little I washed out thoroughly ha!) and the same problem when I reassembled. So, reluctantly I drained the system and pulled the pump to see what mechanical issue might be going on. When I pulled the pump apart, everything looked fine inside but when I grabbed the reservoir, by chance I noticed something was off. At a certain angle light was barely coming through the metal inlet tube I had screwed into the reservoir lid to avoid splashing. I looked down it and saw that there was something in there. I poked it out with a small screwdriver. Turns out two plastic washers were lodged in the inlet tube. I remember the tube had come rumbling abound in a bag of parts with screws, washers, a plastic vortex tube, etc. Somehow they must have lodged in the tube and were the perfect outside diameter to match the inside diameter of the tube.I attached a photo of this as well. I then reassembled and tested the pump outside the case (lesson learned) and found it to be pumping great. I then put it back in the loop and this pump now kicked arse. It pumps so hard, despite the big loop, that it would drain the reservoir in about 5 seconds while bleeding. Massive difference. So, the moral of the story is to check your pump before install due to poor packaging of parts, and that this pump is insanely good when it’s not handicapped. Definitely BUY THIS PUMP, IT’S POWERFUL AND EASY ON THE EYES. My system is running super cool. Even my power hungry FTW3 stays low to mid 30s at idle.
