The design on the outside is on paper glued to the ceramic. The ceramic is heavy and functional but has many small chips and imperfections. The bottom grill to hold coals is alright but the top grill for food placement is very thin and I am concerned it will not last. The device is functional but I would not spend this much money for what amounts to a couple of dollars in kiln fired ceramic and 2 small metal grates.
