This is what it appears to be: six outlets spaced so that each one is accessible for plugging things in. It comes in bland-electronic-white and it cost me $7. I purchased this product when I was setting up my daughter's nursery, realizing that I would probably be trapped in one spot for long periods of time and I would want access to power. While shopping for a six outlet tap, I stumbled upon this one; I hadn't seen this design before, but I really liked the idea of being able to plug in a variety of bulky electronic plugs. I've used items in the past where I seem to be able to access four of the outlets at most, so this seemed like an interesting experiment. The item is much bulkier than I imagined. Truthfully, I hadn't spent a lot of time imagining the dimensions; the size makes sense when you consider how the spacing needs to be. As mentioned in the description on Amazon, it is 7.8 x 4.8 x 3 inches, which is much larger than the average outlet tap I've used. Knowing the dimensions may have caused me to reconsider ordering, but I'm glad I bought it. The product worked perfectly and I ended up buying three more. The item plugs in to the top outlet; the bottom outlet will have a small plastic prong inserted into it for stabilization. You can either screw it down or not; I always opt for the screw and I've never had a problem with it. For basic power needs coupled with a desire for accessibility, this is a great item at this price.

I bought several of these GE wall adapters locally a couple years ago and realized I needed more but couldn't find them locally then recently stumbled into them here on Amazon when I was looking at 12 outlet power strips for the entertainment center. The GE wall adapters have proven reliable- they've been in use for several years without any issue, ever. They are versatile - I've managed to plug in SIX WALL WARTS simultaneously in a discrete outlet, most handy! (I challenge most 6 outlet power strips to handle that task!) It is economical - cheaper than many power strips. It is unobtrusive- it discretely performs it's task with less mess and fuss than a power strip sprawled on the floor dangling from an outlet- you know whence I speak... ...and it's so useful! I've used these in a bathroom to keep very low wattage LED strips illuminated 24x7 as a "night light" for my aging husband's eyes, yet the front outlets are still always available for the vacuum, the hair trimmer, the hair dryer and the water pik. I've used these behind a couch to plug in lamps and cell phone chargers on the side without crimping the cord and hence reducing a potential fire risk. I've used these outlets in a kitchen to again discretely plug in the various counter appliances including blenders while keeping the front outlets handy and available - * though a word of caution- be careful plugging multiple high energy devices in and *using them simultaneously*, such as several rock pots, roasters, coffee pots, etc - even the typical house wiring is not likely to handle such a high demand load on a single circuit- especially older homes! - so please use common sense when using any outlet expander. I highly recommend and feel these are safe when used wisely!

I had a couple of outlets in my house that I was always having to swap plugs in and out of. I could have used a regular surge/power strip, but that would have involved having something hang from the wall, so I looked for something that would screw into the wall and give me more outlets and this was what I chose to go with. I love how the outlets are not all facing the same direction. You get two on each angled side of the outlet and two front facing ones that can handle a wall wart of any size. Reading some other reviews, people knocked this unit for taking power from only one outlet in the back. There is a plastic nub that goes into the 3rd prong of the 2nd outlet to help hold the weight, but I don't see this as a con, since if I had a power strip, everything would be taking power from the same physical plug anyway. Another review knocked this because plugging too many devices overloaded his circuit. This person obviously doesn't understand how residential power works. In any residential circuit, you have either a fuse or a breaker which dictates the maximum amount of power that circuit can handle. Most residential circuits in the US are either 15A or 20A circuits. To determine the maximum amount of power (watts) a circuit can handle, you take the A rating and multiple that by the voltage (which is always 120v in the US). So a 15A circuit can handle 1800 watts. A 20A circuit can handle 2400 watt. Go too far beyond this limit and you will trip/blow the breaker/fuse. This applies to ALL electrical outlets in a given cirtcuit, so adding a surge/power strip or an outlet adapter like this, does not increase the capacity of that circuit. You still run the same risk of overloading that circuit as before using this device. Pay attention to the wattage of your devices you are using. If you are not sure of how much power your devices us, I recommend getting something like a Kill-A-Watt which can measure it for you. Anyway, this is a great piece that secures to the wall with a screw in the middle. Some reviews mentioned that they broke the screw when tightening this down. I didn't have such a problem with either of the 3 that I bought. Finally, this is made by GE, which made me feel a little more comfortable regarding its quality. 5 stars, all the way!

This adapter works well and looks good in the wall. The terminals are tight for a secure plug-in, and I like that the shape will accommodate the various "power bricks" that come with some things. Two things to be aware of. First, this only plugs in to the top half of your receptacle, there is a plastic locating pin on the bottom of the adapter that goes into the ground opening on the lower half. This means that it is drawing all its power from the top half, but since both halves of the receptacle are connected, this doesn't really matter. Where it becomes an issue is if you use it on a receptacle where one half is controlled by a switch. If the top half is switch-controlled, that will turn power on and off to the adapter and anything plugged into it. If the bottom half is switch-controlled, there shouldn't be a problem. Second, if you have the square "decora" style receptacle (which we do), you will not be able to use the center screw in the adapter to fasten it to the receptacle, it will just be held in by the terminals. So if you unplug something, you need to hold onto the adapter to keep it from coming out of the receptacle. For our use of this, everything plugged into it pretty much stays plugged in so it's not an issue for us, but keep this in mind if you frequently plug and unplug. Overall though, this adapter suits our purpose well and I would recommend it.

Easy to install it directly into the outlet plug in my living room and it easily fit the standard outlet plastic cover. The white plastic prong slides into the bottom 'grounding' hole nicely, and the blades are securely fitted inside, no gaps. This was slightly smaller and less depth than the one I bought at the same time as this one, but that's possibly because the other one also had a "resettable circuit breaker" built inside it (GE Grounded 6-Outlet, 56575). I was pleased to see I didn't need to permanently install it as it is very stable and the shape of it really hugs the wall. Woohoo!! Unfortunately, neither of the two different types of 6-Outlet Wall Taps work for my bathroom because it has a GFI type that is inset inside (great idea), BUT the spacing and the plastic prong are off for the both types of GE Grounded Outlet. Look elsewhere for bathroom solutions. I know people have cut the prongs off, bent the blades to force it to work, etc., but no thank you. I found the old style bulky 3 outlet T-shaped plugs are much safer, and two of those give you the number of useful outlets without messing with the GFI, blades, or other adaptions for older buildings. This item works great. But here are some facts. - Like other customers have mentioned it only plugs into the top outlet. (That is, if you have your ground wire on the bottom of the outlet, then the top. If your ground wire is above, then it only works with the bottom outlet.) So if one of your outlets is controlled by a light switch, this will affect you. - This outlet comes with the option to install permanently. For this to work, your outlet must have a center screw hole between the two plugs. This product will still work fine without being installed permanently. - This product will not work with ground fault outlets. These are the outlets you typically see next to the sink in most bathrooms that have the "reset" and "test" buttons on them. This is because on the back of the Adapter there is a plastic numb that would fit into the bottom ground socket. The spacing is different on the ground fault outlets verses a standard outlet. You could experiment with cutting off the plastic numb, but this will weaken the security of the adapter to the wall. Also, with the ground fault outlet you will not be able to install permanently as mentioned above. Other then that, this product is as described and works great. Any item that is plugged into this item fits securely into the adapter. If I would have known these facts before I purchased, I would not have bought this item, as I am unable to place the item where I wanted to. But this is still a good item.

Amazing performance

I've been an Amazon customer for many years, but I have to tell you, this is the single greatest purchase that I have ever made. To call it "life changing" would be selling it short. More like "life transforming". More like a revelation! I want you to walk over to the power outlets in your house. How many things can you plug into the wall? 1? 2? Maybe if you live in Beverly Hills, in a stately manor, you can plug in 4 items in a single outlet, but not all of us have silver spoons, Tiffany. Now? I am living like a king. Not 2, or even 4 plugs. No, I can plug SIX items into my wall at one time. Six. I know what your'e saying. Is this some kind of dream? Did I just stumble into an episode of Black Mirror? Will a quantum singularity form out of this confluence of power outlets and swallow us whole? Dream no more, for all of us now can live like the royals of Britain and the height of their opulence. Six power outlets, with zero degradation of quality of electricity. To say that this is a gift from the Almighty is to cheapen this offering from the Lord, herself. No more using a power-strip like a peasant. No more managing a flopping cord, brandying about, creating rats nest after fire-hazard rats nest. Now? Everything plugs into the wall. My Tv? My Xbox? My Dvd Player? My amp? My CD player? My Roku? All of them, right there, in one outlet. No one man should have all this power, but yet, here I am. I find myself blessed with the treasures of El Dorado, here in my simple home. Where could this lead me? What possibilities are open to me with this simple gift? Oh yes, you THINK you know what you would do if you could pull off such things, but you don't really have any idea until the opportunity is RIGHT there in front of you, staring you in the face. New job? Simple. Life is simple now. I'll be rich by the end of the decade, I can promise you this. Removing the guesswork from the world is right there in my capacity. No one will ever top me. If you think you can handle the sheer responsibility of this purchase, I encourage you to make it. But do so with care, for with six plugs of power comes six plugs of responsibility. Simple, and extremely effective. It plugs into a standard North American double-socket (and mandatorily takes the place of both) and easily handles all manner of plugs. I have a mix of horizontal and vertical adapters plugged into mine, and there are no issues no matter their size. This is the only socket expander you'll need.

This cheaply and effectively helped me get all my countertop appliances and lighting connected in the kitchen. It does come out of the socket a little bit easily, so now I have to hold it instead of just yanking on the cord, but I can't see how this would be avoided in any alternative product (it does have the bolt hole to bolt into the wall but there's no hole in that location on my outlets).
