My fan only has one speed no matter which setting its on. Is that normally a problem?

Yes, this is a problem with these fans. The company I work for gets these fans and within a month or two, no matter the setting, it will only blow on low. We have seen this with the Lasko X-style fnas that have both the manual switch and the press buttons. Lasko knows this is an issue and refuses to address it.

How long is the cord?

Sorry I don’t know. But this is the best fan I have found. My husband was a drummer and used it at shows. The bass player had one as well.

Would this fan be safer in regards to fan blades and small children than others like the wind machine?

Short answer is yes. With a minor cautionary note. This is an enclosed unit using what some call a squirrel box fan, think old timey steam boat paddles. So there is no external blades and short of a child sized finger left to be worked into the enclosure this is in my opinion much safer than traditional three or four blade fans. I'd choose it over any other except an ion type. Hope that helps.

Where is the cord storage?

The cord is on the other side. There is no designated storage area that I’m aware of. You can lay it on the bottom plate in the back of the fan.
