Royal & Langnickel PJS24 Painting by Numbers Junior Small Art Activity Kit, Dolphins

I bought this as a present for my elderly Mother and she loved it. The numbers were easy to read and all of the paints were in good condition. The brush was also nice and sturdy. There have been some kits that either the paint was dried up or the brushes were thin and flimsy. Not this kit. She finished it two days and was proudly showing it off to all of her friends. I will be buying more of this brand of paint by numbers for her in the future.

This was one of the first paint by numbers I painted. Well my technique has improved subsequently, I liked and the finished painting more than any of the others. I'm learning there are different qualities of pbn kits. The most important is the quality of the paint. This kit does not have great paint. It requires mixing colors which for we newbies means it's very hard to match the colors in the picture. This was only my second or third paint by number kits. I strongly recommend using a product called gesso clear which is painted over the entire board canvas and allowed to dry. Then begin using the pigmented colors. Doing this allows for a better result and using less paint.

I've been doing paint by number for years and decided to try this L&G set as I was looking for smaller size animal pictures. The move to requiring the mixing of paints by most paint by number manufacturers is a disappointing trend to me. To say the least I am completely disatisfied with this product. First of all, the white #1 paint was completely dried up and unusable. The rest of the paints required several drops of water to make them somewhat usable, but some could not be turned into a smooth consistency remaining chunky and difficult to paint with and also difficult to mix, and this is a problem as most of the picture requires mixed paints. Also several sections are not numbered and it is difficult to near impossible to determine from the picture on the package which paint to use. Many of the edge sections of picture are cut off including the paint number(s). Some of the sections are so small along with included paint number(s) that even using a magnifying glass I could not determine which color to use. Actually the picture on the package is not much help and is truly not representative of what to expect in a final picture, unless massive amounts of special techniques are used. This is not what I am looking for in a paint by number set. Will not purchase again..

Says on the package that it is suitable for ages "8+" but could NEVER imagine our 10 year old granddaughter (who is artistic) sitting long enough with patience to finish. This was difficult enough for me, her gramma, to give up and finish it with markers! I have the patience to stickwith most projects, but this was too labor intensive for me. That has to speak volumes to anyone who loves to paint like me.

I got these for my daughters to take to their grandmothers house while she watched them for the week. I was hoping to keep them busy for a little bit and these seemed to do the trick. They are 9 and 8 and it kept them busy for a long time but they also love painting and doing anything with arts and crafts so this was right up their alley.

My son loves birds and this was a great way to paint some. I always encourage arts and crafts over technology, for a change. This was an unexpected gift for him and he really liked it. It was an even better hit than I had hoped for. Maybe if parents would encourage art,instead of television, kids would try more artistic free time. Give these paints a try for a rainy day activity.

I give this 2 stars instead of 1 because the paint colors are bright and match the picture. I give it a 1 star because of a couple of things.First, the paint pots are narrow so they won't stand up when the pot is open. Second, the print on the board is so dark that it is very difficult to cover it up so the numbers don't show through. Third, the majority of the paints have to be mixed. And last, because I had to put so many coats of paint on to cover the lines and numbers, I ran out of a couple of colors. Also, there is so much mixing, especially with the white paint, that it is easy to run out.Because of all the mixing of paints and the re-coats to cover numbers, I definitely would not recommend this for a young person (or for anyone as a matter of fact).

This should make a lovely picture when completed. I haven't done any for many years so I am trying a few of thsese before I start on the Schipper PBN which I have had bought for me.I got a freebie with this picture of an extra paint brush & it is a Schipper paint brush. It will be good to have 2 brushes to use.

Bought these for children of people I work for, for xmas. Makes a nice reasonably priced present which was well received

I would say this is for a 14 plus. It was VERY detailed and hard to follow the plan. A lot of the times you were constantly switching paint so the numbers wouldn't be covered. I magnifying glass is a must.
