SO glad that these have finally arrived....having read most all of the reviews, and hemming and hawing for 6+ months, I finally decided that these shades were worth a try...hubby works second shift, so sleeping in is a nice thing to be able to do...being super sensitive to light, and sick of the curtains I had up, I was desperate for an alternative. When these came, I just about ran to meet the UPS delivery man, ran back inside and immediately got everything out to put them up... Okay, first of all, yes, these are just thin paper....HOWEVER, they are not as cheap as construction paper. Also, for those grouchy about this, I'm not sure you could get enough paper to cover a window for $6, and then you would still have to fold it perfectly, and have the clips to hold it in place...It helped having read the reviews, and expecting the worst case scenario, and knowing that I was "just" getting paper....I'm super clumsy, and these poor shades have been through a bit already, and they're holding up just fine...one window is above our bed, and we don't have a headboard, so it's subject to abuse by pillows and restless sleepers all night, and seems to be doing fine. I do fold my shades back up during the day, because in my mind that will help preserve them. Second of all...the adhesive strip...I'd say it's a little more than that, because it sticks super well. If you're trying to adhere it to a wet, grimy, or super cold surface, I could see how it might not stick, but applied with care, mine have been up for a few days now, no problem. I peeled back a little at the time, and followed, pressing it firm with my thumb. One edge of one of the shades had pulled away from the woodwork, but pressing it firmly back into it's place, it has stayed ever since. Third, "Does it work??" ...I would say yes! If you are expecting for 120% total darkness, I would suggest perhaps painting your windows an opaque black. If you would like to significantly darken your room, I would absolutely recommend these shades. a bit of light does peek out from the sides, where I didn't measure and cut exactly to fit, and they are not thick and opaque, but I have to scenarios, that I think demonstrate fairly well how they work. The other evening, we went to my in-laws for dinner, for their safety, we crate our dogs when we are gone (crates are in the bedroom where these shades are up), so they don't get into something that they could get hurt with (and are never gone for more than around 2.5 hours), we always leave the light, and the TV going to make it nicer for them. When we returned from dinner it was around 8:30pm (which on the east coast = DARK this time of year)...as well pulled into the driveway, my stomach fell as I saw the bedroom windows were dark--"Oh my gosh, I forgot to leave anything on for the pups" ...I ran inside to start apologizing (yes, I am that kind of dog lady), only to find the light was on, and the TV was going--no exaggeration, you could not tell from outside in our driveway. Second example was this morning...when waking up, I was immediately disappointed thinking I had only slept until around 5ish, and that it was going to be a dreary day...upon fully waking up I saw that it was more like 8ish, and it was a bright sunny day--NEVER would have known with these shades up. So, after writing a small novella, I will conclude in saying, if you feel like these shades might work for you, then I would definitely give them a try...I would say that they are well worth the $6 a piece (worth more, but Amazon, please don't jack the price). If the belly aching 1-star people have such high and specific expectations/needs, they should be shopping in a store, in person.... You can't be that picky, and expect something for nothing (no disrespect, but come on...really now...).

These are a great product and a great price. I bought them for my kid's rooms because their windows are flooded with light both in the early morning and in the early evening. They are young, so going to bed at 7:30p was difficult because there was so much light in the room. I didn't want to put blinds with cords in the room not only the risk of them choking, but they can use it to pull down the blinds. I used blankets to cover the window, but there was still lots of light leaking in making the room pretty bright. Plus the blankets covering the windows looked a little odd. First, I put up one shade in my older child's room and there was an instant difference. I wouldn't have thought it would have been so dramatic with just a black paper pleated shade. Next I put one in my younger child's room, which gets even more light, and you can see the difference in the photo. The first photo has the blanks over the window and you can see just how much light is coming in. There is still light after I put up the shade, but it's much less and there are no blankets up! There would probably be even less light if I spent a little more time in cutting it better. Cutting it is easy. I would recommend using a ruler and a blade to cut all the layers at once or in as few strokes as possible. I used a pair of scissors and just kinda held it up and cut it. It worked fine, but it's not super straight and doesn't fit the window perfectly. I might take them down and use new once since this comes with 6 shades. I haven't used the clips yet, but they seem straight forward. I don't know that I want to use them in the kid's room because they might pull them off and either put them in their mouth or lose them. If I have a need for more shade I will not hesitate to buy these again. Update: I've had these for about 2 weeks now. They still work great, but the double sided tape doesn't hold up very well. I've found it has fallen down every 2-3 days. The clips seem to make it fall down more, my guess is the extra weight. I'm going to try using velcro so I can take them down completely if I need to. One note I didn't make before was the the shade didn't go completely down to the bottom of the window without pulling on it. After being up for a few days it does stretch out to the bottom of the window. The only other comment is that you need two hands to put this up and put the clips on it. It's not a bad thing, but you can't do it with a baby in one hand. Overall still a great product.

Quick Fix Blackout Pleated Paper Shade Black, 36" x 72", 6 Pack The Quick Fix Blackout Pleated Paper Shade Black is not too bad. The shades are kind of thin. They feel like a heavyweight paper, kind of like heavy resume paper. They come with an adhesive tape to hold them to the window, and I found this to work very well. In other reviews I saw people recommended purchasing 3M adhesive tape to ensure the shades stay up, but I found if you clean the window area properly with some alcohol, there was no issue with the shades falling. There are six shades in the package which is great. The shades were super easy to cut to size. I just followed the instructions provided. Once you have them hung, I found using the supplied plastic clips to hold the shades mostly “closed” while hanging was the best method for me. They are easy to raise and lower and keep that way by folding them together or releasing them. They do a phenomenal job of blocking the light. The only real negative I can provide is that one of the blinds was partially torn in two spots which I was able to tape. It was not the most professional looking thing, but for the price point it did the job. Update – after about six months I removed them and hung new Faux wooden blinds from Lowes. I spent almost $700 after installation. The reason I finally replaced the Blackout Pleated Paper Shades was more about my pride than anything else. They remained easy to use and did an admirable job of blocking light. They actually blocked light better than my new blinds do. I recommend these blinds for anyone who does not have a large chunk of money to put up blinds or in a temporary situation like an apartment. Clean the area you are installing the blinds on very well and they will stay hung. Take care while raising and lowering them and they should last you a good while, like mine did. I just moved and needed a quick solution to window covers before I could install some proper hardware, and these did the trick. Super cheap, literally made of paper, and easy to stick on and install. I was actually rather impressed with em! Looks rather nice... well after four days one fell down, the following day another fell, so now there's four left that seem to be okay. Seems any kind of movement with air in the vicinity, fans or air conditioning for example, wears out the adhesive fast. I expect the others to give out soon, but hopefully they'll last long enough for me to install some proper winder coverings. If you need to buy yourself a week? Great buy! Don't expect much more than that, especially if they're not perfectly isolated from any movement. Hell I never even changed the opening with the clips included, but I imagine doing that repeatedly will wear it out quicker too. Basically that glue ain't lasting forever. I can imagine a solution with tacks or whatever to secure it, but at that point honestly just install something properly. These are fine for what they are, but just that. Fine.

First, these shades work... very well. The material lets ZERO light through. Other than the light coming around the gaps between the shade and the window frame, no light penetrates the shade itself. Total darkness! But don't get it twisted... these are otherwise pretty flimsy. Don't buy them expecting hardware or anything "sturdy." They are essentially a 36" wide piece of pleated paper. The paper material seems to maybe be a mixture of paper, cloth and plastic. So it feels like it's going to hold up well (and the reviews I relied on to make my purchase indicated that it does). At the top of the shade is an adhesive strip (peel and stick). After cutting the shade to size, you peel the wax paper and stick it up. Its very sticky, so get it in the correct place before lifting it to the edge you plan to stick it to. There's no do overs. The set comes with 2 clips per shade to hold them up or down. That's the only hardware. No strings to pull. No screws or brackets. Just two clips. But this makes installation so easy. Installation tips... 1. Measure the window width at top, middle and bottom. You'll cut the shade to the most narrow measurement. 2. Measure and cut each window at a time. You'll learn from doing the first one (at least I did!). I didn't quite trim the first one narrow enough... and cut the rest a little more narrowly. 3. Once you know the measurement, use a cutting board and very sharp knife or razor to "slice" the shade. Keep it folded like a block (adhesive stip facing up) and you can slice through it. 4. First, inspect the window frames for dust or grime and clean them if needed to ensure adhesion. Then peel the waxpaper strip off the adhesive. Align it in the window about an inch from the top to be sure its centered and cut to the right width. Then stick it to top of the window frame (a clean, smooth surface. If your window frames are dirty, or textured, they won't hold). 5. Then let the rest of the shade unfold (drop). It will eventually relax and fill the window. Pinch two clips to the bottom. My windows are pretty long , so I didn't need to trim anything off. But you can trim them easily if you have shorter windows and don't want to leave the excess. 6. To raise the shade, just remove the clips and fold the pleats back up to near the top of the window and replace the clips to hold it up. I found putting them about 1.5" from the edge looked best (less sag). For $10, you CANNOT beat these for a quick, functional method to blackout light. I intend to buy true shades for close to $50 each at some point in the future. But since my wife works nights, and we have 11 windows in our room... that wasn't a viable option to get her a dark room to sleep in NOW. These worked perfectly for now (and much easier to install too).

These do what they’re supposed to do, block out light. There’s really not much more to say than that. Regarding some of the negative reviews specifically relating to the material; Yes, they’re made out of paper. I’m not sure why some people are surprised by this when they first open the box; it clearly says it in the product title, “ Redi Shade No Tools Original Blackout Pleated PAPER”. Yes, the adhesive to attach them is not that great. This is easily solved by using something stronger like a command adhesive strip to secure it. I used a 2 inch one, cut it into three pieces and attached one in the center and one at each end and the shades are firmly secured. Yes, because the shade is pleated and it’s made out of paper, even when you stretch it out the full length of the window it bounces back about 1/3 to 1/2 up because it’s not weighted. This issue is also resolved with a command strip - specifically the Velcro ones. I attached one side to the bottom of the shade and one side to the windowsill and when I bring the shade down I secure it to the windowsill. Are they as visually appealing as cloth ones? No, they’re not, because they’re made out of paper. You’re getting six of them for less than $30 dollars, the price for one cloth blackout shade. It should be expected that they’re probably not going to be as nice as the cloth ones. At an average cost of $5 each these are fantastic purchase to solve the problem of too much light. I will add, if you have curtains the visual quality aspect isn’t really going to be an issue because you really can’t see them even thru shear curtains. However, if you don’t have curtains and you don’t plan on putting any up and you want something nicer than a paper shade you may just have to bite the bullet and spend the money on a better quality shade that costs more than $5. If you’re just looking for something that blocks out light, doesn’t require drilling and screws to put up and is cost effective, then these shades are perfect.

When I first opened the box I was skeptical about the durability of the paper and my husband discouraged me from using them. But, when I needed to cover several windows at once, it was super easy. They look great! Really impressed with the ease of trimming them to fit my many different sized windows. The tape provided will only work well on some surfaces. Doesn't stick well to textured walls. Does stick well on wood frame. I used double sided gorilla tape for the shades that needed it. Unless reinforcing with gorilla tape, try to avoid drafts with out first drawing the shade up. I like that the clips double as a weight and then hold up the shade quite nicely when light and air is needed. I also used a shade on a door frame to separate the kitchen and dining room, temporarily of course! I ended up loving them, bought a second box! Definitely recommend.

The accordion shade itself is exactly what I needed to block the light inside the window behind my blackout curtains. Unfortunately everything ELSE you need to make it stay up is not included. You'll need: - Scissors or box cutter - Tacks - Some other kind of clip It does not work BY ITSELF as blackout, I use it behind my blackout curtains which are on a rod in front of the window, so the light came in the top and bottom. So these do block most of the light that the blackout curtains don't. Together I get like 90% blackout. There's still a little that comes in between the edge of the shade and the window, even if you cut it perfectly. (You'll need to cut it unless your window happens to be this exact size, so you need scissors or a box cutter.) This IS what I needed, the blackout curtains alone were not working and my slat blinds were a joke. Thick black paper inside the window that folds up and down is basically what this is, and what I needed. Getting them to STAY UP is the issue. Nothing included in the kit actually works. The sticky strip on the edge is nowhere near strong enough to hold it onto the wall. It IS good for is sticking two sheets together, which you'll probably need to do, to get a longer shade. To stick it to the window edge, I tried the largest 3M stickies and they fell. I tried cutting off the sticky edge and putting 3M stickies directly on the paper, it fell. I finally used thumbtacks and surprisingly it works! They've been up for weeks. TLDR skip the expensive 3M stickies and go right for tacks. Finally, the enclosed clips to hold the shade up and open, are a joke. I had two break as I was trying to put them on, and they regularly slip off. It's not that the amount of accordion is too thick, I can get them clamped securely, it will simply stay for a while then slip off randomly or with the slightest movement. I happened to buy a blanket from Marshalls that had these two nifty white clips, which don't even have a hinge, and they work perfectly. You'll need some other clip, at least 2 depending on the size of your window. This is fairly inexpensive for getting several actual accordion shades, so I'm not too mad about it, but you're really only getting the accordion paper, nothing else included actually works, and you'll need more supplies to make it stay up.

These shades block out sunlight extremely well, go up in seconds and look fantastic. Others mentioned that the adhesive didn't keep up for extended periods so I decided to put tacks in the top corners to prevent them falling. If you're just going to use the adhesive, I suggest washing the surface first to improve the contact. (I put one up without tacks, so I'll update this review if/when it falls down.. but if you're reading this, it means it hasn't fallen yet.) Since they're made of paper and can't be washed (only dusted), I'd consider these to be single-use and wouldn't recommend using them in bathrooms or in situations where you'll need to raise & lower them often (they'll likely tear easily if you're not careful) but they're perfect for covering windows (or the tops of them) permanently. You can shorten both the length and width easily with a utility knife as needed. As they're very lightweight, a slight breeze can make them move away from the window, so you may wish to tack down the bottom corners if this is a problem. Alternatively, you could use magnets to weigh it down (or use velcro.) If you plan on using these on shorter windows (3' tall or less), you could cut them in half along the seams and put them up with tacks (or double-sided tape or velcro) to get 12 shades out of it instead of 6. Just keep in mind you won't have enough clips to raise them all at once. One reviewer mentioned that it didn't come with the clips/clamps, but mine did and they look to be good quality and will probably outlast the shades (I attached a picture since one wasn't provided.) While I probably won't be using the clamps to raise the shades, I'll be keeping them to find another use for. If used for the right purpose, these are an amazing value and look great. Exactly what I needed. Hope this helps, sorry for the long-winded review.
