Can I place this antenna in my attic of my home?

Easily if you have a high enough peak. Though you will want to make sure you run a ground wire from the base of the antenna to a suitable place (water faucet, grounding rod, etc).

I live in on the first floor of in a small apartment. I noticed that the description said it antenna could be put on balcony railings. How!

You will need to head to the hardware store and jury rig up some sort of pipe clamp and possibly a short pipe that can clamp to the balcony railing, and also to the stub end of antenna. Unless your balcony trailing includes a piece of vertical pipe, the supplied hardware will not be sufficient. When they say "it can be attached", I think they mean that it's compact enough to fit on most balcony railings, with a little work.

What exactly is the difference between the more expensive Diamond D3000N & the more affordable Diamond D130NJ?

The D3000N has a wider Receive range, 25-3000 MHz vs 25-1300 MHz. Transmission: 50-1300 MHz vs 50-1200. Not a bad ultra-wideband antenna for the price and small footprint.

I believe that all of the Diamond antennas are made in Japan. I have the D3000N antenna. Very good quality!
