Does it come with a 6 volt battery

Hey, It does not come with a battery. You can get one on Amazon for around $10.00. It does have a solar charger on the feeder that seems to work really well keeping the batteries charged.

We have ours set to feed two times a day. Is it necessary to set the length of time for each feeding or does it feed for the same length each time?

The length of time is a default time. All feed times are the same unless you change it.

how does it mount to a barrel? I can't find insructions online.

It has 4 legs that screw on to the side of the feeder with batwing bolts so that the feeder can adjust up and down the legs to set the distance from the funnel you screw on to the bottom of the barrel and your spin plate on the feeder. The opposite end of the legs screw to the bottom of your barrel. Very good feeder one that you can set and forget. No need to deal with changing batteries because of the soller charger built into it.

What is it the body of the feeder made of, is the spinner and funnel metal?

The body and the funnel are metal. I won’t buy any other type of feeder. I’ve had three of these last over five years now with no problems. The only other failure was my fault for pulling too hard on the solar charger wires.
