I don’t recall my podiatrist ever using similar tools. In fact, I never knew they existed until I was on my own temporarily before I could schedule an appointment. The tools are impressively sturdy and easy to grip. It was relatively easy (albeit a bit concerning) to pry the nail from its impingement on the skin. Any discomfort was minor and it helped that I was personally in control. It may work best to trim the nails first. I also used the tools to remove any buildup on the edges of the nails due to a fungal infection.There are a few videos on the Web which provide some guidance as to using similar tools. Given concern about infection, it would seem important to sterilize the instruments before each use.Unless the objective is only to clean under the nails, it might be best to have a podiatrist’s advice to assure that you are doing no harm.

Very good value for a tool that will last a lifetime. I misinterpreted the photos of the two "lifters", even in the close up view, it appeared that the instrument had a tiny ball at the tip, but turns out to be a flat edge. Seems like a ball tip would make for a more full proof way of not hurting oneself when lifting the edge of the toenail.

Just what I wanted.

Love to use this on clients!!! And on myself! I disinfect of course. These products make cleaning the sidewalls, and under the free edge of the toenails very easy and comfortable for both myself and the client! If planning to use on yourself; the way it curves just before the tip of the tool makes it much easier to give self pedicures. Clients: same as previous statement, just so much easier and way better! Really pulls out the dead skin and such without fuss! (If properly soaking feet of course)

I bought a set that has like 30 items in it. The kit did not have these so I bought this set. These just aren't all that helpful to me. Prefer using the flat ones that come with finger and toenail clippers. I gave it a three as they work by design. I just don't like them.
