Updated Version of my last TomTom - Identical Controls (No Relearning Needed)
This is, from what I gather, the latest edition of the 5" TomTom; and the best. No thanks to the website though, you will have to figure THAT out for yourself (hint hint to TomTom).Moving on: This is an updated version of a previous TomTom I had for the last 3-5 years. Nothing changed control-wise, so there is NO learning curve (for me at least), which is something I appreciate. They now update the maps with WiFi, so if you hotspot to it OR have a Sync Drive you are in business. The phone app is needed, that I understand thus far, for move-involved issues such as rerouting around traffic. If you live in a dense area, little doubt it merits the little bit extra you will pay.As a note aside; I have always thought GPS-based systems are better than just relying on cell phone apps; if for no other reason than reception. So if you are undecided, I would recommend a GPS. The clamshell holder, I think, is much better than the standard suction cup, stick to the window arrangement. Hope my review helps you and best of luck. P.S. the 5'' is PERFECT.

Great Concept - Unusable Execution
First one was a gift from my wife. We recently got a mountain house and I wanted a unit where I could pre-program certain routes to try through the mountains with my sports car, or have the unit plan a route based on interesting roads versus the shortest or most direct route. The first one was unusable. It constantly needed updates, and whenever you loaded updates to it it would freeze multiple times, requiring reboots and restarts of the whole process. Didn't matter whether the updates were map updates or firmware updates - either way the unit would lockup or die and it would literally take 3-5 hours to successfully load a set of updates. In some cases I had to leave it overnight, and you had to babysit it the whole time because if it locked up, you had to manually start everything over. Eventually I decided I must've gotten a lemon since other reviews were OK, so I sent it back and got a replacement unit. The replacement unit doesn't freeze on updates all the time, but it does randomly restart while you're using it, discarding your route. It still frequently needs updates for maps, speed cameras and firmware, but it just never seems like a working product. It is slow to respond to screen touches, but then all of a sudden it responds to all of them in a burst, so now things you thought were three steps back are getting executed and messing up what you thought you were doing. More often than not, after the first 15 minutes of using it I get frustrated and go back to Google Maps. Google doesn't have a good way to build or follow a track (one of the main things I wanted with the Go Supreme), but it works.I will say their web software where you can build and store your routes ("MyDrive") is pretty decent, and it does let you export your routes as a track (.GPX file) for use in other nav software or equipment. But the software is free - you don't need this junk unit to use that part. I'm going to try the Garmin Zumo XT2 instead. It's built for motorcycles but has the same features I wanted in the TomTom with respect to planning routes and finding interesting roads. Hopefully it works way better than the Go Supreme. I really wanted to like this unit, but it can't even do basic GPS functions well, let alone the more complex stuff I wanted.

TomTom associated app has been problems and now has been discontinued by TomTom
The MYdrive app for smartphones associated with this device has been discontinued by Tomtom. This is the second time I have had issues with Mydrive and the connections between the phone and the device for realtime traffic has sometimes been problematic. I love Tomtom for long road trips, but these two or three issues have resulted in me deducting two stars for this model. Really, the time and trouble to troubleshoot has been inconvenient at best. I have even worked directly with Tomtom support previously. The real time traffic and lifetime traffic camera features are great. Named locations are not always findable. In this case, google is more reliable. One star deduction for Mydrive (More than one issue). I'm still searching for an alternative app.One star deduction for repeated and difficult to resolve hotspot connection pop up requests and notifications on the phone while driving. Whatever the cause, it's another annoyance.Like I said, I love the features and convenience of tomtom, but problems are problems, sorry. I can update it on wifi without leaving my car (okay, I'll add back a star). This device is now almost 5 years old too.

The Best TomTom Ever!!!
I was fascinated and amazed by this product's features #1 the big size of the screen plus brightness! Second, the wireless Bluetooth connection it truly makes your cell phone a hand's free device. It will read incoming texts, tell you who it is from and ask you for a reply. It also allows you to answer phone calls. It's like have On-star but not having to pay for it. It also recalls the frequently visited places, and ask you, if that is where you are headed. It lets you know when there is an update and how long it will take to download. It also finds alternative routes that save time and shorten the distance. I strongly recommend this product. I have always been a proud owner of TomTom they took the cake with this product! Easy to setup and maintain. So, what are you waiting for? The price is also inexpensive and it is worth the value.

Well its come a long way
This unit is much better than the old tom tom i have with many more options (i dont use) allowing smartphone use for traffic etc..... I have not learned all the features due to the manual you get is barely more than how to turn it on and set it up. It doesn't cover any of the questions I had nor did the online manual. So you just have to play with the thing if you have the time. I still haven't gotten it to take directions without punching them in. Voice rec. just isn't like the old ones that you could just talk to when telling address to go to...etc. But at least this one hears better...lolIt just takes a little time since NO good directions in manual for what if.....example its muted how do i unmute it??? Just the little things. I still give it a 5 because it is much better than the predecessor units.
