Springfield Leather Company Rawhide Lace Hanks (1/8" x 50')

This rawhide lace worked great for stringing antique lacrosse sticks. Go into purchasing understanding that it is a natural material so the exact measurements or thickness of it may not be perfect but that’s what helps add character to the project. The hide became very playable after about an hour in warm water. While working with it, it’s helpful to re-wet to keep soft until finished working. Some parts of the 1/8” were still a bit wide for my use but I was able to trim it up with scissors while wet to get desired thickness. Once dried, it was nice and stiff to ensure strength and durability.

Used this rawhide lace to reinforce rawhide chair seating. Having never done this before, I did not remove the ancient rawhide that was broken in a few places, but used new to structurally reinforce the pattern. (Plus, I could not find any tutorials of how to do this type of seating.) My skill isn’t perfect, but you can see new blended with old. This rawhide was amazing to work with—1 single piece did the entire chair. Don’t look too closely, there are errors! But not with product. Thank you for quality material to work with for this project.

A bit pricy but is as advertised. Very stiff before soaking like all rawhide.

Perfect sized for lacing. I soaked it for half an hour in warm water, laced up my dad’s old shell-holder butt cuff on the buttstock, and set it out to dry. A day later, the rawhide had dried and shrunk back from the stretch I had put on it, and the cuff was properly snugged in. This effectively creates a custom fit, and is far more durable than using elastic. I got a generous amount of lacing, leaving me with plenty more to do other household repairs and such. I’m planning on putting the head on a drum with it.

The entire length of leather lace was bad. About every 2 feet, it had narrow areas that broke with very little effort. It also had areas about every foot or so that had large frayed spots. How can I return this and get new lace hopefully made better that this one.

This product was exactly what I was looking for, it made repairs to my camel saddle stool very effective and quick!

I repaired some vintage snowshoes with this. It worked well. The only thing I would say is that after soaking in water is how disgusting the smell is but that’s how you know they are real rawhide!

I ordered two shanks of this 1/8 inch lacing for drum making. I am very disappointed in the quality. Every yard or so there were two weak spots about four inches apart. The lacing became so thin in these places that just the tension of pulling them through caused them to break. I ended up having to cut them and tie knots to keep going with my project. The second shank was not as bad as the first, but I still had to cut and knot a few times to finish my second drum. The 1/2 inch lacing I ordered by mistake is being braided into rawhide chews for the dog. They are totally adequate for that purpose,
