Its AAA battery used in outdoor unit. Battery life is very long... its more than a year I am using the same and battery is still working. Indoor unit need power to operate. Overall a good product. Go for it.

Is the remote transmission a RF technology system ?

Seems to be RF, but the coverage is poor. I had bought and the signal couldn’t reach 6ft away behind a closed door. Returned it.
