How much weight does each shelf hold?

We used it for storing our dog food cans. We would buy 20 cases at once....we had two of these storages. If I remember correctly we could get almost 2 1/2 cases on one shelf. The shelves are very sturdy. I recommend this Cabinet.

Does it have locks installed

The closet I bought does not have locks installed.

Can items be stored on top of the unit? Is the top sturdy enough to hold weight?

You will have to have something heavy on the very bottom shelf or it's not sturdy enough and you would have to probably screw it to the wall.
